At this point, I am just dipping my toes into comics - I have a devastatingly tiny collection of about 25 trade paperbacks and a few dozen single issues of some larger publications after being intrigued by the medium for close to three years. I figure having this list in place will inspire me to work harder at visiting my local libraries and bookstores for the ability to read the works on my lengthy Wishlist. I am taking a Scaruffist approach to graphic novel criticism. Since the premise of Piero Scaruffi's body of work on rock music is to take a traditionally "low" art form and show the "high" art within, I felt it was necessary. For those who wish for a more comprehensive resource, however, The Comics Journal takes the same approach (thus, they often inform my own opinions). Note that I take a full series into account except where noted - listing individual story arcs of magazines lasting well over a thousand issues would be needlessly specific. This is still very much in its infancy stages, and I haven't totally come to a conclusion on how to balance serials ("dailies," "comic books") vs. self-contained works ("graphic novels").
