You need some Ming-liang Tsai in your life, easily my favorite director of the 2000's. I Don't Want to Sleep Alone, Goodbye Dragon Inn and What Time is it There? are masterpieces, and The Wayward Cloud has one of the most crushing cinematic moments I've witnessed.

I like your list! I'm surprised to see a film like Hero on it, and I haven't seen Taxidermia or The Duchess (really need to get on this one). Good stuff--but feel free to give Synecdoche a skip. Overrated.

Alright, I think I'll skip Synecdoche, New York! And, yea, I absolutely love Hero. It's one of my favorite films. I was convinced after first viewing that it was a masterpiece. I remember watching, thinking, "of all the great martial arts films I've seen, this one is champion. This is one of the most visually enticing movies I've ever seen." The more I watch the film now, the more I fall in love with the poetic, remarkably impressionistic storyline.

Taxidermia's nuts, man. It's really bizarre. It is a cinematic treat in many ways, the great Amon Tobin does the soundtrack. It's killer.

The Duchess is fantastic. It's one of the finest dramas/love stories of the decade.

The two films from the 2000s that stand out as two of the finest of all times are Tree of Life and Mulholland Dr. They are two of the premier masterworks one will ever find. Those films move in ways no other films do. They're incredibly revealing yet incredibly mysterious. Memento's up there too!

*I will be sure to check on this Ming-liang Tsai. I sure hope he doesn't suck. That'd really wear me out; I'm confident that if you say it's a masterpiece, then it probably is. And if Ming-liang Tsai is slinging around MPs, then I want in!

Don't listen to Marquee. Synecdoche, New York is great. Roger Ebert agrees. :-)

Yea, well, I don't always agree with Mr. Ebert (Roger's a real dork sometimes). But, AJdaGREAT(ness), I've a feeling you're keeping it real with me. There are some important films I still need to view. Maybe I'll knock those out, then slide Synecdoche, New York into the player.

Fair enough. Roger can be a dork, but since you seem to be someone who enjoys complex, artsy films and Charlie Kaufman, I think you'd probably like it. But by all means, no rush.

Re: Synecdoche New York... honestly, judging by what you seem to favor in film, I'd be surprised if you didn't rate it 92% or higher. I'd strongly recommend it to you. Definitely, definitely, definitely Werckmeister Harmonies as well (Tarr is very much his own filmmaker but there's no doubt WH is a kindred spirit to the works of Tarkovsky/Angelopoulos)
