My favorite is "I'm shocked -- SHOCKED -- to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment!" "Your winnings, sir..." "Oh, thank you very much."
Great list. I'm a huge fan of Errol Morris, it's nice to see him so well-represented here. Have you seen Vernon, Florida? Maybe not a top 50 contender, but good fun.
I would recommend Spellbound (2002), if you haven't seen it. Also a great little music documentary called DiG! (2004)
Man, I hope they don't think I'm buying a whole new book! I guess I will modify my lists to denote that these are based on the first edition.
Of those you listed, though, I've seen all but three, so it helps my odds. You've got Aviator listed twice -- don't tell me they liked it that much? :-)
I started a similar list about a year ago but haven't been keeping it updated much. Here's some from mine that I don't see on yours:
The Freshman (1925)
It (1927)
Theodora Goes Wild (1936)
Paper Moon (1973)
Animal House (1978)
Zelig (1983)
Local Hero (1983)
Tampopo (1985)
Jean de Florette (1986)
Manon des Sources (1986)
Matewan (1987)
Eight Men Out (1988)
Muriel's Wedding (1994)
South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut (1999)
Inherit the Wind I think is debatable -- Gene Kelly is very impressive in it, and March and Tracy have a nice "act-off," but on the whole I find it a little too stagey.
Judgment at Nuremberg is an excellent film and I'm surprised it's not on the list; I'll add it to mine.
You stick to your guns, L. Bangs. I never got what the big deal was about Vertigo either, and I've watched it several times trying to figure it out. I think the movie only works if you buy into the second act, and I never have. I have the same problem with The Lady Eve, in fact, for the very same reason.
I disagree with a couple here, but then my list would contain The Third Man and The Maltese Falcon, so who am I to judge?
Coming up this weekend (either on Tivo or from Netflix) I've got: Man with a Movie Camera, Applause, The Wind, The Music Box, and Way Out West. I keep missing The Passion of Joan of Arc on TCM. I wish you would add more that I've seen, I feel woefully inadequate. I'm not even at the halfway mark.

I would totally donate to help keep Listology going, and I think others would do likewise knowing that you need assistance with the bandwidth.
Similarly, are we talking the original Italian Job, with Michael Caine?
Right. I feel a little foolish not seeing that link on your list - duh! Thanks.
Good list, I've already cloned it. Where did this originate -- with you, or was this list already in existence somewhere? Lots of Nietzche.
A few that I would add:
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler

Haven't seen Lagaan yet.
Interesting. Any idea who you would cast as Hitchcock?

You've added more movies I haven't seen! I will add these to the list later today -- you've got Lang's Spies down here twice.
Making these lists has shown me just how much I am lacking in world cinema. That's an area I need to work on.
Reading his stuff has reminded me of a lot his best comedy, but his brilliance was really in the delivery. I'm sad to see him go.

Don't miss 8½ (Otto e mezzo)!
