Yeah, what he said. Pop Tatari is damn near a religious experience if you've not heard Boredoms before. What's even more amazing is that it was a major-label release.
Hey dude, just finished The Cellar -- actually burned through half the book tonight, in like three hours. Which is impressive, if you consider that much of the second hour was divided between Laymon and "Project Runway" (upon which my beloved wife has, to my eternal consternation and against my better judgment, gotten me hooked). All I can say is... hell of a book, but WTF is up with that epilogue. WTF, I say. Um, ew in my opinion.
Also, until Laymon mentioned the close-cropped black hair, I kept imagining Roy as played by Rowdy Roddy Piper. I don't know why.
Lemme give ya a hand here. The following are Pixar films:
Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Monsters, Inc.
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Cars
Ratatouille
All other CGI films are A) not Pixar and B) varying degrees of crap on a cracker. The latter applies especially to the fucking Dreamworks films (i.e. Shrek, Shark Tale, Madagascar, etc.).
I would ask exactly the opposite question: Why is it that, recently, I've seen so much splenetic hatred for it? I personally think it might be the finest piece of literature I've yet read. So there you go. Now you know someone who thinks highly of it.
Dude, it's OOIOO. Don't ask questions, just roll with it (he says, despite having not seen the film and also having not been terribly thrilled with the last OOIOO album he heard, the meandering Kila Kila Kila).
So was this McClure thing a Wexner special? 'Cause I admit, the description makes me feel a bit jealous...
Meanwhile, I tried to see No Country on Sunday, not thinking that the fact of its playing in exactly one theater in the Village might lead to sellouts. Evening wasn't a total loss, though -- I walked a few blocks and saw Brakhage's 'Pittsburgh Trilogy' instead.
On my end, Ommegang, one of my favorite breweries, has finally let me down: Their Chocolate Indulgence is a sloppy, coppery mess of a winter stout. The Dogfish Head Golden Era Pilsner was damn good, but I think I liked it better when it was called Golden Shower... :-)
Also, what'd you think of the Greene King? I remember fairly hating it. The Lagunitas Zappa beers so far have been sweet, but do you know if they're gonna synch one up for each Zappa album or just for the Zappa + Mothers albums? 'Cause if it's the former, they've got a long way to go. Though I admit curiosity over what the Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch brew would taste like...
Like Paul said, Affleck's best skill is his unobtrusiveness. He lets the material do its work without mucking it up with flashy technique. As for the editing, there's some two-shots early on that felt a bit off, but otherwise I didn't notice anything egregious.

Yeah, "Frankie Teardrop" is something else, no? That's a goosebump song if I ever heard one.
1) It's available through my local library system in a Leisure Publishing paperback. In other words, looks like it's back in print, baby!
2) If only I had lazy Saturday afternoons in which to do that. Ah, who'm I kidding, I'd watch movies instead. :-)
3) I just... I... GAAAH. So fucking wrong. On so many levels.
4) HA! (I see him more as a wimpier Stephen Toblowsky, myself. And Jud is Kane Hodder.)

Ooh! Must to add!

I'll say. "Hounds of War" is best-of mix material, even minus the demo solo.
11/15- OOIOO "UMO" (2007, Shoji Goto) {Um, what?}

Also, I think the Stone 7/7/07 is their best vertical since '03. But that's just me.
Coconut porter? Do tell...

the combover hair/gothic hipster schtick. Who thought THAT was a good idea?!
I did. Laughed my arse off. It was awesome.

296? Jesus. I thought I was doing well.
And FWIW, you need to see Tokyo Olympiad. Like, right this minute.
