How about, instead of "Listology Pro", you use the name (drumroll and spoiler tags for dramatic effect): "Listology PRO®"? :P
As an aside, I like the idea of being able to remove posts from my own lists, even apart from 'moderation'. For instance, in my "Movies to See" list, I have a ton of posts, none of which I want on there any more. Many of them are suggestions of stuff for me to add...and these movies have been added...AND watched, AND removed. Kind of annoying to have the posts there 2 years later :)
Yes, I knew you were onto something, because his quote always started with "I love it" or "I loved it". Thanks for the tip, now I can harass him with this knowledge :)
Actually, "It's better than Cats" is a tongue-in-cheek phrase that one of my musical friends uses in reference to most anything they do. (The Gifted Children is the band).
I personally, am not a musical fan at all, though I did see Cats on Broadway. There are only 4 musicals that I can stand, all in movie format. I'll keep the details a secret for now...perhaps it will be a list of mine soon ;)
After coming back to your reply months later, I realize that if you had a "Top *Twenty* List", you could just include *all* of their movies...not too challenging then, though, is it :) But still, you picked the wrong 5 movies, IMO :P
17: 2001, not sure who played him off the top of my head
22: Back to the Future trilogy, again the name escapes me
24: Young Frankenstein (Cloris Leachman)
36: Monty Python & the Holy Grail (Eric Idle)
46: Life of Brian (Graham Chapman)
48: Blazing Saddles (Madeline Kahn)
I'm sure I'll be annoyed if I've missed another Monty Python character, I'm sure there's probably afew other Mel Brooks characters in there, too :)
Agreed. There's the sometimes-thin line between being informed and being spammed. Especially for the super-users on the site, checking this option every time tends to spam those people. I always check it personally, as I only post three or so times a month, and responses are few and far between.
Also, my guess is that many people don't use the feature because the box is unchecked by default. I know that, on my own personal guestbook, more than half of the people who sign the guestbook tend to leave boxes untouched, and I've tested with pull-down lists, checkboxes, radio buttons, etc. It's easiest just to type and click Post :)
Before this loaded, I swore that you simply had to include Manhattan and Annie Hall to save me from a heart attack :)
You missed any early comedies, though, unless you want to count Zelig as one. Love and Death, Bananas, or Take the Money and Run were fun, too, though.
OK, so I'm posting 8.5 months later than everyone else. (See my list on procrastination, that should explain it!).
Just one note--I'm a cheap b*stard, and the pay method would keep most of the casual users away, and possibly open the door to advertisers looking for cheap ins. Just a thought...
As for automated moderation, this rarely works as desired.
As for manual moderation, this is a good idea for moderating on a case-by-case basis, on posts reported by users. If the site hits a growth spurt, you might consider adding a 'Report abusive post' link on the form for each page. Also doing away with anonymous posting would help avoid such stuff, too.
First off, hopefully everyone knows what alliteration means, but in this specific case, "High Fidelity DVD Availability" has a lot of hard consonant sounds repeated within it, specificially with the double "ity". Now I demand my prize.
Blah blah blah, I love High Fidelity (easily one of my top 3 favorites of the year), though I'm fine with getting it on Ebay, as it's common to find there. I don't know what you think of that, but a copy recently went unsold for $9.99, and the closed auctions end from $12 to $18. Just do a search for: "high fidelity" dvd and the goods (literally) should pop up.
Other than that, I don't own a DVD player yet, though I've been a huge proponent of DVDs since before the general public had heard of the darn things--you can blame lower-middle class status on that. For the most part, I'd rather own 50 used movies than 10 new movies, with a few exceptions on things I'd like to collect as new.
I can't!!!

Yeah, I was just wondering if FIF would celebrate Halloween :P Nonetheless, this is a beautiful, creative list. It's better than Cats.

I don't know, a lot of competition in baseball movies:
Eight Men Out
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Pride of the Yankees
Go Coens!
You've chosen to not include the 2 movies of theirs that I enjoy watching the most: The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?
It'd also be tough to decide which two to remove :)

And, of course, The Freshman. I've never seen anyone parody themselves so well :)
Hrmm, if you're limiting it to 5, I would omit Cool Hand Luke. For some reason, that movie really doesn't do it for me. At all.
You could happily replace it with The Hudsucker Proxy (go Coens!) or Slap Shot :)
