it's true... i have seen them, but it was at one of those festivals where everybody blurs together, so i don't really even remember what they looked like. thanks for the addition, btw!
this is a great idea for a list. i know someone who wants oingo boingo's "dead man's party" played at his funeral... if i think of any good ones, i'll have to clone your lil listy.
but i'm confident i'm not the only one--i noticed yesterday in the grocery store line that she made People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful list. of course, i may have run out of her available rentals now--so i hope her new stuff is coming soon. according to imdb, she'll be in an upcoming Stephen Frears movie (among others).
and to answer your previous question (a bit late), i did really enjoy Chungking Express--and actually, the girl who sneaks into the guy's apt. when he's not there reminded me a lot of audrey's amelie character! it all comes full circle, you see.
off the top of my head, i think ani difranco has some applicable tunes. for war protest, there's "roll with it" which is from the perspective of the soldier's loved ones, and along other political lines, "crime for crime" packs quite a punch against the death penalty. i'm sure there are more--and other artists that will come to mind. i'll be back!
man, you totally rock--this is exactly what i needed. thank you! without this kind of guidance, this list may never have translated into action... i'm going to take this like a prescription from my kindly musical doctor and go fill it at my local record shop this weekend!
i don't know how long it's been since you watched it--but what did you think of venus beauty institute? (yours is the only list on which it appeared, believe it or not.) i rented it because i loved audrey tatou in amelie so much. of course, she didn't play a very big role but there are plenty of other great reasons to enjoy this flick i thought. i especially loved the use of repeated sounds--like the chime for opening and closing of the shop door and also the noisy buzz of her jealousy. i must say, though, the ending left me with a few unanswered questions. i'd love to hear your thoughts on it, k?
you are absolutely right! i forgot she was even listed here... i think it's safe to take her off the list, because although i don't think i'll be re-viewing any of the roles i've seen her play in the past, i won't avoid anything because she's in it. thanks for pointing this out lbangs--and here's to personal growth!
i know this comment has been here for a while, but i've been thinking about this. i think it's not so much that i think sean penn is a poor actor, like some of the others on this list--but he's someone whose presence makes me uncomfortable. this could even be testament to the quality of acting i suppose--but when i see him on screen i get the creepy-crawlies, so therefore he belongs to the list. does that make sense?
okay people, i know this is going to come as a shock to some of you, but i obtained a copy of alanis' new release "under rug swept" and i have to tell you--this is what i was waiting for. to this point she'd been wavering on the edge of cool (IMO) and never quite doing anything that wowed me, but this CD puts her over the edge. this album is her most impressive to date--not only because of the quality of lyrics ("flinch" and "so unsexy" are both amazing--still very confessional though, so if you don't like that about her your opinion won't change) and her decision to add a bit of variation in styles (she rocks out on "21 things" and "precious illusions") but also because she wrote and produced the whole thing herself and is following her own instincts. reading a couple interviews with her also helped--i feel like she's a bit of a kindred spirit now, but not in the cliche "you like ani so you have to like alanis" way. if you like her even the tiniest bit, definitely pick up the album--i have a feeling she's gonna have more good stuff comin our way.

wow thanks for posting that link.... someday i'll have to work on getting a mix together.
i believe number 22 is ocean blue... and i want to say the song is "ask me jon" but i'm guessin just a bit.
also, is 21 echo and the bunnymen with killing moon? man, i can totally hear it in my head...
yeah, i love movies that throw in the old stuff--especially during semi-shocking scenes. this list might explain what i mean a bit better...

lol - that obvious, huh? ;)

great list... my mind is churnin.

i just want to say Amelie was so robbed!!!
ya i love that movie as well, but the soundtrack isn't quite as memorable as some of john hughes' other films. notable, though--thanks!

can't say i'm overly familiar with any of those--i'll take them as folks to look into!
