re: our lady peace... i agree with your comments about taking multiple listens--that is something i've found with all the albums by that band. they're also a band that i would say i like, but i couldn't really sing along or anything. a strange phenom...

i've been thinking about this re-watching phenomenon and these lists only count how many times i saw them in that year. it would be interesting to try to calculate (or approximate) how many times i've seen some of these in reality. some of them would just be impossible but if i were really bored someday...

yes, the folks at artofthemix.org are always coming up with new monkey-related theme mixes. here's the latest--which i noticed yesterday.

If Curiosity Leads Taryn...

thanks for the update on the t. rex selection. sadly, i've been so poor i haven't been able to dip into any of these and the list just seems to grow longer.

however, i just got dsl and have been able to download a track here or there...

favorite SNL musical performances

just wanted to second that "alive" performance by pearl jam. it was the first time i'd heard or seen them and i was addicted after that for two+ years. *sigh*

it's interesting that you should bring up both of these subjects at once because my answer to the kieslowski question has to do with both...

basically i adore blue more than any other (have a huge poster of juliette binoche from it) but it's too emotional to rewatch very often, whereas i find red to be perfect for many viewings. i once watched it with one finger on pause so i could make a list of all the red objects in the film (way before listology--it's a sickness)... i couldn't do that with blue.

as for white, i just can't get into it the way i do the other two--the characters are just a tad too mean-spirited or something. and i'd like to see the double life of veronique again, but i doubt it could surpass blue or red. anyway, sorry that was the long answer. :) the short answer is more of a question:

which makes it a favorite--depth of experience/personal meaning or watchability?

popular shows i never liked

you know, it was recommended to me too, but i think by the time i got around to watching it the "soap opera" effect set in and i just couldn't pick up in the middle, not knowing the background. this could be on my list of "shows i missed the boat on" or something...
(good call)

well my top 10 of the year would probably look something like this:

10 - my mother's castle
9 - unstrung heroes
8 - dangerous liaisons
7 - to live
6 - joy luck club
5 - diary of a country priest
4 - camille claudel
3 - rebecca
2 - a sunday in the country
1 - red

and of those, the top 5, 7, 9 and 10 were all introduced to me by my film teacher (either in class or special film nights he held, or by recommendation) so i'm definitely grateful for those.

i am also glad i watched high noon, bergman's persona and cries and whispers, la strada, and chaplin's city lights because i may not have chosen to watch them on my own. (however, i could have lived without ever seeing roshamon (sp?) or battleship potemkin, no matter how "seminal" they are to film history... ) ;)

movies i own (dvd)

dude... i had no idea how much it cost until i saw it on amazon the other day! 3 of my close friends pitched in and got it for me when it first came out--hopefully on sale!

i am totally grateful to them too... they know my affinity for kieslowski and how i went to viewings of these 4 nights in a row so i could catch them all. (the eastman house in rochester had them a few years back for one of the only public viewings in north america.) anyway, this won't be one i loan out, i'm afraid--i lost my run lola run video that way!
