yeah, this flick is kind of an exception to the usual reasons i avoid films. i've actually watched the first 20 minutes but couldn't get into it--and of course someone with me said "well, you have to be *high* to understand it." i see... so it's one of those aversions that come from the people you associate the film with. (like if you don't think people who quote monty python all the time are funny--you end up being biased against MP...) perhaps 2001--and other flicks that are known in some circles as Films Which Should Only Be Viewed While Chemically Altered--get an unfair rep. i might consider trying this again at some point in the future.
oh man...i'm sooooo sorry about the date thing--that's pretty rough. as for the good press, the *only* redeeming thing i can think of is the conversation the main character has with the security guard.
(Exc. from imdb.com--Johnny: And what is it what goes on in this postmodern gas chamber? Brian: Nothing. It's empty. Johnny: So what is it you guard, then? Brian: Space. Johnny: You're guarding space? That's stupid, isn't it? Because someone could break in there and steal all the f***in' space and you wouldn't know it's gone, would you? Brian: Good point.)
especially the bit about the barcodes and the end of the world... but to this day, david thewlis gives me a severe case of the heeby-jeebies.
elliot smith is definitely what i'd call mood music--i haven't gotten really attached yet or been through an exclusive listening period with it, but it's definitely got potential. (and thanks for the your opinion on tigermilk--i have to check it out.)
i find it interesting that i *love* a couple of these artists (depeche mode and info society) and severely dislike a couple (pink floyd and KMFDM)... what do you suppose that says about me? do you think i'm the extremist or is it you? ;)
[i think our friend of Comment #1 was a little confused... being able to quote something word for word is a COMPLIMENT where i come from.] at any rate, judging from this--your first list--i'm anxious to see more from you! sid & nancy, breakfast club, princess bride, and harry & sally are all favorites of mine as well.
i'll definitely consider this one if the opportunity arises. a professor of mine in college showed just five minutes of it in class once and i don't think there was a dry eye in the room--perhaps it would be better to view alone. thanks for the recommendation!
what's to be guilty about Fifth Element when there's so much to love?
you see luke perry get killed in the first ten minutes;
gary oldman playing the wackiest villain since his spot in the professional;
milla jovavich with orange hair sporting all kinds of gualtier outfits...
sounds good to me!
oh, ok thinking bruce willis looks good as a blonde--that's *kind of* a guilt thing. =]
it's not that i didn't *like* shawshank; parts of it were extremely well done. but yeah, there were some scenes i just didn't want/need to take with me, although they may be necessary. (also, see my list entitled "Films I'm Avoiding For One Reason Or Another" to find American History X and others of that sort...) call me Squeamish, but i like sleep too much. =]

honestly i think i've blocked it out. that's how off-putting i found it. you're on your own with that one!

i just got into belle & sebastian recently when i picked up "boy w/ the arab strap." how do you think "tigermilk" compares?

this is one long-ass list, boy!
(am i allowed to say that word here?)
i guess the question then is "how long is too long?!" j/k
try This Perfect Day by Ira Levin if you haven't already...
