ok i think i have a few:
5 - everybody wants a rock by they might be giants
9 - manic monday by the bangles
13 - karma chameleon by culture club
14 - walk on the ocean by toad the wet sprocket
and i can sing 25 but i don't think i actually know who it is...
not that it makes any more sense, but i've read that semolina is a kind of pudding, and pilchards are a kind of fish... i'm sure it will help you to imagine that crawling up the eiffel tower. :)
yes totally! it'll never replace listology by any means--besides, this is a great place to work on seedling playlists--but i'm pretty prolific there as well...
would you mind sharing your username? i'd love to check out your "mixology." :)
i'm thinkin this definitely puts you on the road to lawyer, if not politician after that... haha!
if i were your parents i'd reward you just for your effort and cunning--but then, that never counted with my parents either. i will say, however, that i think magnolia is one movie worth fighting for. good luck to you!
as long as we're asking random questions, i'd like to take this opportunity to inquire about the hall of fame stars... how are the stars calculated (for instance, is it the number of lists a person has or the number of items entered?) and what happens when all the people on the list have the maximum number of stars?
gosh, you would think i'm really competitive or something, but it's really just incurable curiosity. :)
oh i forgot to ask you, did you get to last craftygal bulletin, lbangs? one should've been sent out a few weeks ago when the last issue went up. they ended up switching to a quarterly zine which is why there hasn't been a whole lot of online action lately. (possible book project in the works--we'll see what pans out.)
also, as an FYI i'm taking a wee step back from the web project (to more of an occasional contributor) so you won't always see stuff with my byline, but i'm still involved--just so y'all know what's up. thanks for bein supportive, fellas!
many thanks lbangs for your persuasive powers... if i ever need to sell any snowballs to eskimos, i'll know who to call now! :) (and thanks, jim, for being the honest and kind person you are.)
heehee--yes, i was told i'd have to watch unforgiven when i had a strong person's arm to squeeze... so that may be awhile.
thanks for your thoughts though, and hopefully i'll get back to you by the end of the weekend on north by northwest! of course, i'll have to catch up on the listology discussion before i comment. :)
also, the casablanca thing is a wonder--not sure how that's slipped by all these years, but i do plan to remedy it. to be continued...
alrighty jim, i've formalized it over here. and i know you guys'll probably have additional suggestions, but do keep in mind i'm a semi-squeamish girl. :)
johnny, i'm totally agree with your thoughts on sid & nancy--my very open-minded father never understood how we could watch it so much... but then i had him read nancy spungen's biography and i don't want to live this life (written by her mother, deborah) and he came around. i highly recommend that book if you're at all intrigued with finding out more about the story. the phone call in the movie was true-to-life, it would seem, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
as for labyrinth, i think it's like the dark crystal in that it was great when i first saw it but did lose some of its sheen over the years. so you might be right, it's more nostalgia than anything else. that, and a penchant for david bowie and tights, must be what keeps people coming back for more. (lol)
lessee...
for mann, i recommend death in venice and other stories.
for kundera, most would probably say the unbearable lightness of being but i've only seen the movie for that--i'd go for immortality or ignorance.
for sexton, no evil star (the title's from the palindrome "rats live on no evil star").
and gorey, well, he's best known for the macabre alphabet series the gashlycrumb tinies, and i recommend amphigorey a nicely rounded collection of his works which includes the tinies.
thanks for asking and let me know what you think if you do try them out!
oh oh another one came to me:
12 - and it stoned me by van morrison...
love that tune!

i wholeheartedly agree--an excellent new feature. i vote to keep! ;)

an absolutely perfect example!
thanks so much for remembering that--i seem to have blocked it out cuz i was so traumatized at the time.
let me know if any more come to you, k?

if anybody's interested, or just feeling particularly kind... please sign the petition to get Freaks & Geeks released on DVD. *pretty please!*
