I whole-heartedly agree about Aerosmith, they used to put out high-quality guitar jams and rock out with the best, but now they go through the motions...as almost everyone who saw the Super Bowl halftime show could tell, they try too hard recently to be pop-friendly, to the point of alienating their fanbase of the past 20 years with sleepy songs like Jaded..
I would have to say that Papa Roach is quite underrated by the highbrow critical community, for though on the surface they appear to be just another angst-rock band, their songs usually have some message, some good reason for the angst, and they write songs which today's youth can relate to..

Well, I would suggest taking a listen of their 'Horrorscope' album, which showcases their versatility quite well, in a broad range of rock styles, though their self-titled debut also has some high points such as 'Leech', which gives a good 70s-nostalgia to me when i listen to it..I'm just simply flattered that you're asking me for a recommendation!
I take umbrage to your suggestion that Eve 6 is an awful group...They have very well-written, clever, thought-provoking lyrics, and they're also quite talented in their instruments...I cannot imagine that you, one of the more knowledgeable posters on this site, don't see the beauty in 'Promise' 's simplicity or 'Here's to The Night' 's heartfelt words...
