thanks for the suggestions! would you believe that the only of those movies that i've seen is boogie nights? and that was so long ago that i can't even remember it. sigh. i'm so far behind.
i love cameron crowe, and keep meaning to check out singles, but i'm kinda intimidated by everything he's said about its narrative structure. the music is right up my alley, though. we'll see. :)
thanks for sharing, ender....did you actually *find* the but i'm a cheerleader soundtrack in a store or commercially? because i couldn't find it anywhere, i had to put it together myself. just curious. :)
um......well, it's not one of my favorites on the list. this, though, is mainly because it's mostly the score from the film. the pieces with vocal are *definitely* worth it, but i probably wouldn't pay full price for it if i had the option again. (it's worth it if you see it in a used cd store or on sale, though.) :)
having finally seen last days, i can say that i did, indeed, like it. but i can also totally understand it being easy not to like it; it's definitely one of those movies like before sunrise (which admittedly it's been a *long* while since i last saw, but which is the only thing i can think to compare it to right now) which is *all* talk, and thus really hard to get into. but thanks for all the tips....maybe someday soon i'll try to catch stillman's other movies. they're definitely on my list of movies to see. :)
nope. laurel holloman is the girl who plays randy in the incredibly true adventures of two girls in love and was also in myth of fingerprints, if you saw that. i still haven't *really* decided if i like her as an actress yet, but she's a *beautiful* woman, so, yeah. :)
actually, the girl who played georgina in girl, interrupted was clea duvall, who i didn't really like in that, but who i just saw in she's all that (i know, i know.... <g>) yesterday and was really cool. she's also in committed, so i guess i'll *definitely* have to see that now. wow. she's actually been in a lot of little movies, now that i look at her filmography. i'll need to look into her more.
i hadn't heard about angelina.....sigh. damn that girl, she needs to go back to jonny!! ;) yeah. i promise i'll reply to your email soon.... :) ~k
hee. i do go to smith, indeedy......and just saw it at pleasant st saturday. *weird*. ;)
i haven't read either high fidelity or american psycho yet.....finals time....much stress.....actually on (what is hopefully) the tail-end of an all-nighter right now (my own damn fault, besides; i had all weekend to write this paper and just have *not* been able to concentrate, and it's 10-12 pages due at 5 today and i haven't really technically started it yet....sigh), but both are on my self-imposed "summer reading" list....whether i actually get around to it is another story, i've been in the middle of bell hooks' all about love: new visions for about two months now....sigh. oh, well.
regardless, i swear i'll let you know when i read them....and, hope i don't weird *you* out, but do you have icq or aim? maybe we could chat in real time sometime, or you could email me, and maybe even next year we could become movie buddies or something? i dunno about you, but i can *never* find anyone who wants to see the movies i wanna see. <g> anyway, yeah. talk to you soon, babe. ~k
i've seen the daytrippers....i really liked it the first time i saw it, the second time i saw it not so much, but still enough, and the third time the same way. (can you tell i tend to see things multiple times? <g>) i think it'd definitely a movie you have to be in the mood for, and i don't know how you liked it -- i'm assuming that since you have it up here, you liked it alot ;) -- but it's worth having.
i had more movies that i was going to recommend to you, and have now just totally forgotten about them..... :) later, ~k
i *definitely* agree with your recommendation of cruel intentions, but if you're going to own anything -- and this is a fantasy list, n'est-ce pas? -- you should own the dvd. *much* more fun than the video...and not necessarily for the reasons you'd think, either. <g> as far as andrew mccarthy goes, he's made a few movies since; kind of a long while ago i saw a movie on either sundance channel or the independent film channel with him and lili taylor in it, which i really enjoyed, but no one else seems to have heard of, called things i never told you. he's also got a few movies coming up soon, according to his imdb listing.
ooh, barbie, see zero effect, high fidelity, and pecker....those are the only ones i've seen already, but they're all a lot of fun. zero effect you might have to be in the mood for; it's very....quirky. and pecker i saw knowing *very* little about it but loved it, but it too might be a mood movie. but high fidelity....well, if you read my response to your comments in my books i wanna read list, then you'll see what i think of it. :)
i finally saw high fidelity today, and it made me *so* happy. i totally can't place my finger on why....but it's *such* a cute little film.
as far as books made into movies is concerned, honestly? i've never actually read a book of a movie before i saw the movie. so i can't say whether or not reading the book first works better than the other way around. i actually generally avoid literary adaptations, but it seems like lately i've been seeing a *lot* of them....i just haven't read the books yet. the only one i can think of right now that i both saw the movie and read the book of is foxfire, and i didn't like the book as much as the movie, but i think that's cause i *really* liked the movie, and the book seemed much different. i don't know. i think it's a better idea to see the book and movie as separate entities. :)
barbie, i've never heard the soundtrack *nor* read the book, actually; my wanting to see it is based solely on things i've read about it, and, as of tonight, the trailer for it. i'm assuming you're saying the book is worth reading? ;)
it's all good.....i love seeing movies a gajillion times. for example, i've seen boys don't cry at least five times....and i haven't even gotten the dvd yet (it just came out this week)! and i saw both dogma and the talented mr. ripley more times than i can remember. so trust me: you're not the only one. ;)
which of forster's other novels do you think is best?
i agree wholeheartedly with the tempest; i haven't actually read it in a class, but the teen center in our town performed it the summer after my senior year, and i enjoyed it *much* better than almost anything else we read... (course, that could've had to do with the performance aspect, but yeah.... <g>)
*love* and the band played on. have you seen the movie?

hey! i didn't say i thought it was a *good* movie, just that i enjoyed it. (in short: katie holmes ripping off her shirt. ;P)
um......well, it's not one of my favorites on the list. this, though, is mainly because it's mostly the score from the film. the pieces with vocal are *definitely* worth it, but i probably wouldn't pay full price for it if i had the option again. ah! thank you. 1997? the recent one. i'll note that now. :)
a few little things:
