It's a "read" I am somewhat embarassed to say. Now that I'm getting a master's degree in creative writing my professors always seem to mention Paradise Lost in every lecture, so I thought I better catch up. It's ok, I suppose; tho I like some of Milton's other (read: shorter) works a bit better!
Just re-read "Songs of Distant Earth"--man, I really like that story. When I first read it as a young kid I remember the images of the destruction of Earth were so compelling. I found out they still are.
Cool list--I guess I'm too sappy and sophmoric but I think the best baseball movie I have seen is another Kevin Costner production: Field of Dreams. Although extremely far-fetched, it does grant a resonance with the spirit of America and the spirit of baseball.
Thanks for the quote ideas--I get the Inquistion song in my head about once a month..."We know your wishin' that we'll go awaaaay / but the Inquistion's here and it's here tooo staaaayy!"
I saw a bit of the new Dune, but not enough to have an opinion on it.
What about "Good Singers playing badly in Good Movies"? I'm thinking of Sting's scene-chewing as a blue-leather-wearing assassin in "Dune". Course, if you don't like Dune (even tho it has that hologram dude from "Quantum Leap"!) then it can fit on the other list, too...
Hey Busy,
Thanks for the tunes to put on my "to listen to" list. The Smashing Pumpkins' selection did trouble me--I wanted to include a song from "Siamese Dream" and first thought of "Disarm". I think, however, that I was so entranced by the excellent video for 1979 that I cannot separate the two in my head. I'm big into lyrics, too, and do like "Faster than we thought we'd go / beneath the sound of hope..." I'll have to ponder SP once again, tho, I'm sure.
#19 is (nerd that I am) Darth Vader from the star wars trilogy; I'm thinking from the first scene from "Return of the Jedi"

Christopher Walken: "I got a fever--and the only cure is more cow bell!"
What's your favorite on the "Almost Famous" soundtrack? Mine (I think) is "I've seen all good people" by Yes....
The Giving Tree reminds me of The Lorax by Dr. Suess, sometimes, but still it is a fine story...
btw, Steph, gotcha
#32 is Wonder Boys, I believe

I completely agree with the feeling of lost youth that "1979" evokes. Course, I was only 2 in 1979, but still...
I guess I should also think more on the double cd "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"...but nothing really speaks at the moment.
Doh, I see a few of my suggestions already on there--you'd think I'd learn to read being in grad school and all...sigh.

Here's a few edibles from my collection:
Cranberries
G. Love and Special Sauce
korn?
Pearl Jam
Reel Big Fish
Wheatus
Brandy?
Cool list!
Best of luck to you on your attempt. Truth be told after #1 I really can't delineate between them. And limiting each band to only one song...arg...
