I'm glad you posted the trailer and I enjoyed it. Maybe because I'll be 66 in July this year but when Jones says "not as easy at it used to be", I relate to it quite strongly. Call me old fashioned but the theme music still gives me a lift and as long as it's of similar quality to past episodes I'll get what I expect... a pleasant escape.
Fact: I am a citizen of the U. S. A and I write my lists from the perspective of being an American. The process I go through when I list a movie: I go to http://us.imdb.com/ to look up the exact title, list of actors/actresses, date of release, and country of origin in an attempt to make my lists as accurate as possible. If the movie's country of origin is not the U. S. A., then I consider it foreign. My definition of foreign is WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD DICTIONARY OF THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE'S definition, "1. situated outside of one's own country...2.from...another country or countries." In making a distinction between films made in the U. S. A and films made outside of the U. S. A., no offense is intended.
There are an endless number of diary entries about calories, cigarettes, who called and didn't leave a message numbers, and lottery tickets. After what seemed like the umpteenth reiteration of being your own worst enemy, I finally just couldn't pick the book up yet another time for yet another repeat. It did occur to me that my lack of interest in this book may be due in part to a "generation gap." It reminded me of the popular TV program Ally McBeal which holds no appeal for me either. Both the book and the TV show are about being 30-something and single. Being considerably older and married, maybe I just don't identify. But I think it's more likely that I don't enjoy either reading about or viewing self-defeating behavior--no matter what the person's age.
If you mean that it's out of place because it a childrens' movie, then I understand why you feel it's misplaced. But as a children's movie, I think it's done well and is worth of a place on my recommended list. It's a movie I wouldn't hesitate to take my Grandchild to (with the approval of her mother and father). From my perspective, this list is recommendations that may include movies for any age group. If you feel this movie is out of place on this list for some other reason, please tell me why.
In my opinion, Kevin Costner is type cast well only in baseball movies with the notable exception of DANCES WITH WOLVES. DANCES WITH WOLVES was top-notch acting by both the male and female leads and the movie in total is one of my favorites. This baseball movie list is not about Kevin Costner per se. I dislike Kevin Costner--the real-life person--and am always conflicted about even seeing any movie he is in. If it were not for the fact that my husband is a baseball aficionado and we generally accompany each other to movies, I probably would never see another Kevin Costner film. That having been said, the ones I have seen that appear on this list I have enjoyed despite not enjoying the sport of baseball and despite my aversion to Kevin Costner as a person. In the spirit in which I think you may have intended your comment, I do find him appealing in the looks department. Ahhhhhh, would that his ethics were as pleasing as his looks--my conflicted feelings about seeing his movies would melt away.
Ditto. That is, I, too, find real-life baseball boring, and I, too, am a sucker for sentimental movies. Alas, my sentimental predisposition is not restricted just to sports movies.
