Yes, the vast majority of the ones I have seen have come from the public library as well. I have also used Netflix and Turner Classic Movies to find quite a few. I am trying not to have to purchase any just to see them. Thanks for mentioning YouTube and online video sites,I will check to see if any of the ones I cannot find are there. Good luck with the 1001 Books task. That will most likely take a very long time. I have that book but I am much too old to attempt to read them all. Instead I am also working on the 1001 Albums book. I have about 180 to go and hope to finish that sometime next year.
Congratulations! Great accomplishment to see them all. You must have averaged quite a few movies each week to get it done in 6 years. I have just under 100 to go but I only average 2 or 3 per week so it will take me awhile. I am wondering what were some of the sources you utilized. Did you have to purchase many in order to see them? I have about 30 or so that I cannot find anywhere (aside from purchasing them). Now that you have finished this list, what is your next goal?
Actually, I own very, very few of the ones I have seen. Most of them I get from our local library system, they have a great selection. If they don't have them, I can request from another cooperating library system in our state. One of the libraries in my state does have Quartet and I hope to get it from them. Turner Classic Movies is another good source for some of the older, more obscure movies on the list.
I am working from the 2010 Edition of the Maltin book. I have noticed that his ratings sometimes do change from year to year, edition to edition. That is why I chose one edition and am following that.
Tough question as movie rating is so subjective. I am following this list because I agree with Maltin more times than I disagree with him. But I consider a 4 star movie one of the best I have ever seen. Using that criteria, in my humble opinion, I would rate a little over 100 of the ones I have seen so far as 4 star movies. But I am having fun following this list because I am seeing some good movies (not great but worth seeing) that I otherwise would never have seen.
I went through page by page. I have been hoping at some point they create an electronic version of the book that can be sorted and filtered by number of stars or years or director or whatever. Given the time, I wouldn't mind doing it myself. Maybe someday when I retire.
I do not have it as yet but I will shortly. I hope to have it posted on this site in the next couple of weeks

Thanks. Since I have already seen that one, that only leaves two more to complete this list for me.

There are a lot of movies titled Hero both foreign and domestic. Do you know the one to which this list refers?

Thanks for the 6th Edition (2009) update. Your tracking the changes from year to year is very helpful.
Thanks for the list of changes. I am still working on the 1st edition (just under 200 to go) but I be adding the changes, thanks to you tracking them.
Wow, I'm impressed, only two to go to complete the list. How long have you been working on it?
