Films Seen: Listology Scoreboard 2012

I'm in again. Cracked the top 10 last year, but didn't hit my goal of 300 movies. Perhaps this year... http://www.listology.com/maniac-mansion/list/seen-2012

Never Heard of It: My Favorite Lesser Known Films

That's an interesting idea. I've been thinking of re-titling it (or at least starting a separate list) to be underrated films. A lot of these movies are actually movies that many people have seen, but don't get the respect I think they deserve. The IMDb star ratings would probably help for that as well.

I definitely agree with Regarding Henry and The Station Agent, but wasn't a huge fan of Blue. Haven't seen any of the rest. I'll have to check 'em out. Thanks for your feedback!

25 Best: 00's Horror

A little of both. I've seen a fair amount, but I'm not a huge fan of Asian films. I like some non-horror Asian films, especially those of Wong Kar-Wai. I also liked Oldboy quite a bit. The only Asian horror film I really liked a lot was the anthology Three Extremes, and that one maybe should make this list. I also recently watched the lost classic, House (1977), which I loved. I've seen most of the big Asian Horror films (Ringu, Ju-On, The Eye, Audition, The Host, A Tale of Two Sisters, Whispering Corridors, Battle Royale), and I really didn't care for any of them. I think it has something to do with their style of storytelling. Perhaps there are some amazing films I just haven't seen yet. What might you recommend?

Horror: Remakes Vs. Originals

The proposed list above are all films that I have seen already, both the original and the remake (I'm a huge horror geek). I just haven't had time to write individual criticisms yet. There are a still a few remakes I haven't seen: When a Stranger Calls, The Omen, and The Stepfather (not looking forward to any of those!) I'll add those to the list when I get to them. Thanks for the interest, maybe you'll find something worth checking out once I've finished.

My Favorite Films

Magnolia is an ensemble film and the performances are uniformly awesome (my personal distaste for Julianne Moore aside). It's also 3 hours of very emotional material (I don't watch it too often because it leaves me drained!) So, if you are in the mood for a long, serious, dramatic film, Magnolia is simply one of the best, and I highly recommend it. And yes, I would have to say that it is probably Tom Cruise's most powerful performance. However, my favorite performance from Cruise as a lead is in The Color of Money.

25 Best: 80's Horror

I'm a big fan of April Fool's Day, it was on my list of considerations. It will certainly be near the top of my list of forgotten gems, and lost classics I mention at the top. In any other decade it would definitely make the top 25, unfortunately its up against some pretty fierce competition, and doesn't quite make the cut.

Night of the Creeps is seriously underrated. Its one of the wittiest and well written horror films ever! Plus Tom Atkins is a Grade A Badass! I had the pleasure of seeing a double feature of it and Monster Squad with a Fred Dekker Q&A after. The special edition DVD is finally being released in September. THRILL ME!!

My Favorite Directors

Videodrome is Croenenberg's defining film. It's directly in between his low-budget horror beginnings, and bizarre arthouse days, so it is kind of a perfect balance between the two. Dead Ringers is one of the most unusual drama's ever made, and Jeremy Irons is amazing. Both films are highly recommended.

My Top 100 Favorite Movies

Great list. Its a good mix of popular favorites, film classics, underrated gems, and personal picks. While I may not agree with all the choices, I respect them, and very much appreciate a more well rounded list, as opposed to a generic (but credible) list with all the usual suspects.

... my main reason for commenting, however, is to say how jealous I am you got to meet Felicia Day! She blew me away in Dr. Horrible. Its great that you keep pushing that mini-flick as it showcases Joss' brilliance, and without the commitment of an entire series.

Fictional Women I'm In Love With (Or Would Be...Y'know, If They Were Real)

This is a great list, and we obviously must have similar tastes (well, Spider-Man comics aside). As soon as I saw Pam and Lorelei I knew I was in for a good list (I actually met Lauren Graham and all I could think is "you're Lorilei!"). Add in characters from Buffy and Almost famous (two of my favorite things in the world), I have to give you a wholehearted thumbs up.

I do think its funny, though, that you chose both the lesbian characters from Buffy, lol. Personally I'd go with Anya, and I'd add Fred from Angel as well.
