Best Rock Albums Ever (according to me)

Hey, I've just got a couple of questions about lukeprog's list:

I just want to clear up some points of confusion relating to his classification of Faust and Irrilicht. I've been reading some of the interesting conversations relating to this post.

Basically a commentor remarked that Faust and Klaus Schulz were not the first people to completely invent the most striking stylistic attributes displayed in their music. For example, the process of deconstruction was already around before Faust, and minimalism was already an established style before Klaus Schulz came in and did his thing on Irrilicht. It's easy to see that the idea that both Faust and Klaus Schulz "invented their own language" is succinctly debunked by this commentor.

lukeprog acknowledges this, admitting that the strengths of these two works (which I agree with) is in their emotive power. Thus, the two artists don't create their own language. Rather, they "use that language in an emotionally powerful way (like Radiohead, etc.)".

This being established, my question is: why isn't Radiohead on lukeprog's list?

Also, if "the greatest albums do both" (invent a new language and use that language in an emotive way), shouldn't Faust and Irrilicht be rendered ineligable for consideration on this list, seeing as they don't fulfill half of the criteria?

The post/conversation I'm referring to is pretty old, so I just thought I'd ask…

Thanks.

I think Lorem is suggesting you lack substance (or anything to say), and obfuscate the fact by writing in inpenetrable diction. While I think he should criticise your ideas before your stylistic decisions, I do think you need to simplify things ;D

And I find it hilarious that you would post those silly observations rather than share any constructive criticism on Mahler's views.

I am glad you love Talk Talk's The Spirit of Eden just as I do. Would you say it moved you more emotionally when you placed it into its historical context?

What are the thirty bands they draw from?

How is In Rainbows their worst album?

What are they "dumbing-down", and how are they doing it?

But if "several of his albums just missed [your] list!", surely you'd have favourites.
