Yeah, totally agree about Dash Berlin, horrible horrible tracks by them and even remixes I have heard can't do anything to improve the tracks.
I guess your either going to love or hate Above & Beyonds productions. Personally I really like them but can see why people would hate tracks like "Lonely Girl" and "On a Good Day". If you dont like their productions don't rule them out as DJs, they really know how to work the crowd and build a set. If your interested track down some of their Anjunabeats compilations. They also have a sister label called Anjunadeep catering for more intelligent proggy house / trance, so although their own productions of epic / vocal trance may not be to taste dont judge them completely on that.
One last thing, it's easy to sit at home and judge a lot of dance music (I have and still do) but this is music made for being played in a club and actually hearing it in that environment makes a certain track "click" and you can't help but get caught up in it and the atmosphere...guess I shouldn't rule out Dash Berlin just yet!
"but its not a bad try" ....sorry, but thats a slightly patronising thing to say don't you think?
Now i dont know anything about you or your music taste and knowledge, and i dont mean to be arrogant and up myslef here, but the fact you say you cant stand most of the top 10 tracks makes me wonder if you really know what you are talking about when it come to trance music. I mean, look at most lists of Top Trance tracks on Listology and you will find a good number of DarkTremors top 10 in such high places. Even people who arnt particular fans of trance music accept those in the Top 10 to be notable and very worthy or credit.
Also, DJ Doboy...i remember someone on this list talking about DJ Shog and saying anyone with a silly name like those generally prodcuce some shockingly bad trance music.
As for the other 2, The Theme is one of the 1st tracks i heard but i got bored of it pretty soon, same with Feeling This Way....got it on Ibiza Euphoria 2, liked it the 1st few times around, but got increasingly uneventful on each subsequent listen.
As for Dont You Want Me....thats Anthem House in my opinion. Has that mid 90's, peak of the superclub, "hands in the air" feel and sound to it that Insomnia, Salva Mea and Hold That Sucker Down etc have. I Guess you could argue its being trance, but for me trance still had an underground and ravey sound to it in 1995/1996....although Progressive trance was growing, but that had no where near the power and uplifting force the Anthem House did at the time.
Anyway, just my input there....didnt mean to rant but just thought your comment was a bit patronising, as though this list wasnt quite worthy for you....despite it being the most popular list on the site I believe, and also coming up as the 1st result on google.
yeah....all those users listed have posted stupid epic, supersaw, synthy samey trance stuff like that. Apparently trancedevotee just types "trance" and that into Limewire...d,loads everything the world and his dog has ever made and passes it off as though he has found some new groundbreaking tracks the world has never heard before (big sigh)....and of course....say "the most amazing, awesomest technotrance music EVER made" on youtube and you have 1000000 hits and thousands of people thinking the same.
Good news is....trancedevotees account got shut down for copyright infringement :-D
That said hallucinight...if your just getting into it all, thats gunna be an ok start for you. I wouldnt stay listening to it for too long and wouldnt advice using youtube to find "good" music on. Try some of the Anthem & Epic tracks on this list.....at least these are good in comparison!
Glad you liked them. Acid Trax just makes me melt. I have never been on acid but my god that track must be bloody close to what its like! :-D
I dont expect some of those tracks i said have enough of a dominant acid layer to make them on the list. Vision Control for example is just a personal favourite, I just like that acid layer that efforlessly runs through the track....a bit like Paul Van Dyk's Remix of Age Of Love which is similar. A lot of people forget it (understandably) becasue of the Jam & Spoon mix. You might like it for a bit of a lighter "acid" track....?
From what i have d/loaded based on Lyceaum's list, these two fit the description of what you are after i think....
Ab-Chic (Acrid Abeyance Remix) - Nexus 6
Starts off pretty tamely, but some how manages to get you completely hooked becasue before you know it there is acid flying all round the place!
Phuture - Acid Trax
Cygnus X - Hypermetrical
Paul Glazby & The Narcomanics - Acid Disco (D.A.V.E The Drummer Remix) (Havent heard the original though)
The Olmecheads - Magic Man
Doran vs. Joshua Ryan - Unreal
Quench - Dreams
Prana - Geomantik
Misjah & Groovehead - Trippin' Out
Robbie Long & AMS - Acid Bath
Marino Stephano - Vision Contol (just a personal favourite there!)
Voodoo & Serano - Blood Is Pumping (Just joking!!!)
Feel free to shoot them down....you will have a much better idea of what makes a good acid track!
Also, I purposly didnt put the ones on Lyceaum's list on....
Ibiza Trance (from my knowledge) isnt a particularly big sub genre so there wont be too much of it floating around to put in lists. Plus by 1998 tracks that, at least I, consider Ibiza Trance are a cross between Ibiza and Anthem/Epic (e.g. El Nino, Saltwater, 9pm etc)
I still think acid deserves more praise though, nothing quite as entrancing as some pure TB 303!!!!
Not to start an argument here but I ahve to disagree with 2 things you have said....
1) What minimal tracks have Kyau & Albert made...I listened to everything by them I have and not a single track is Minimal???
2) Which brings me onto my second point....Progressive is NOT the easiest sub genre to ID! Its infact one of the hardest to say what is and what is not becasue so many tracks fall under it.
It was originally the bridge between old skool Classic Trance and '98/'99 Anthem Trance. i.e. Progressing from old to new, hense "Progressive Trance". Thats fine. This basically meant that anything produced in 1996-1997 was classed as Progressive. These tracks are best described as having a clearly defined breakdown giving Progressive relation to what was to come (Anthem) but also contained multi, relitviely complicated layers building on top of each other sometimes with acid elements showing Progressive Trance's link to its roots in Classic & Acid Trance. "Gamemaster" by Lost Tribe is a perfect example of this with its clear breakdowns allowing tension to be built in a single song but has the acid sample from "Dreams" by Quench and other electronic sounds melded together to create a still relitively entranceing piece of music.
Since then though Progressive turned into a genre itself rather than a temporary style during a movement from one genre to another as a way for artists to establish themselves away from sell out Anthem/Epic. The irony is that Progressive Trance is still being made to day making it anything BUT Progressive!
So you see me point that its very hard to say what "Progressive Trance" is.....
Flaming June is Progressive becasue it was made in 1996....but sounds very much like Epic Trance.
Stringer is Progressive Trance but sounds like Anthem Trance with that big Snare role and was made in 2001.
I know I have gone on a bit there but can you see my point on how confused the whole genre is and how hard it is to identify Progressive Trance....?
Yeah, it gets too anal all the classification after a point. I just see "uplifting trance" as a blanket term for Anthem/Epic/Dutch as thats thier primary objective....which of course makes you wonder whether they should even be classed as "trance music" if they are not even focused at being "entrancing".....
hey, about that PPK track.... just had a listen to it again and i think its down as Anthem Trance becasue it only has the one big breakdown with the snare role out of it before the track "explodes" so to speak. Epic trance is structured much more like a pop song with 2 or more breakdowns like it has verses and choruses. Listen to "For An Angel" as thats a good example of epic trance.
The border between what is Anthem and what is Epic is very undefined. Lots of tracks cross both sides such as "Pearl River"...it has full vocals which is common to Epic...but the "harder" sound and big snare rolling breakdown associated with Anthem Trance.
Without being anal and getting into stupidly small details, "Resurection" has more in common with Anthem, but it does have some Epic qualities. Its probs easier not to worry too much, you could put it under the title "Anthem/Epic Trance" to avoid problems??? I consider it to have a whiff of Progressive Trance about it too.....
Hope thats helped you a bit!
BTW, have you heard "Space Track" by Cosmic Baby??? Predates Resurection by years but uses that "space" sound in ressurection...or more accurately, PPK used that space sound from "Space Track"
Yeah...I have given up trying to tell newbies and the mis-informed why this and that aint techno...i made a video to do if for me! Thats i sign of too much time on my hands this summer!
I finally got round to getting a few more albums...picked up Slam's, Adam Beyer's and Digweed's Fabric Mixes that im enjoying...dunno if you have heard any of them? Not exactly pure techno...there is quite a bit of tech-house I think :-s Actually, Beyer's is pretty much all techno.
well said!...to be honest im getting sick of trance...im tending to listen to more techno/tech house/minmal/electro house.
Actually, im going to have to get some goa/psy trance becasue thats the only area of trance i havent investigated fully yet. I wonder who might have a good goa list....?! :-D
hey man....just something quick...Just seen someone wrote this on YouTube: "Sandstorm is like the base of every techno song. it's kinda like the heart of techno"
Couldnt stop laughing for about 10 mins....needless to say i explained to them how this couldnt be possible

I think that Nizhonot is a mix of Anthem and Psy trance from Israel...?

I have it....."overly praiseworthy" instead of ignorent. That will be better i think.
