Um, I saw Animal Collective when they were out here. They played in a small club. Yeah, they were very impressive. They mostly played new material, which seemed like very intense, almost metal sounding music.
They played some old favourites, the crowd went nuts over grass (it's really strange when stuff like this happens, you think you and your weird mates are the only people in the world that listen to this kind of music.) Nevertheless, the crowd as a whole were very intent on hearing Leaf House, but it wasn't happening, apparantly they just don't play it live. They closed on We Tigers and that was just fine.
Shit I better buy my Joanna tickets. By the way, my brother's girlfriend works for some designer label, so she gets to dress her for her tour down here. So, some degrees of separation there...
Interesting. Not what I would have expected, but I like pretty much all of these songs.
Letter from an Occupant is great, I'm not sure why its not on mine, it's the best track on a great album (which is on my album list). Let's just say it's #11.
How are you going, by the way? Seen any good live bands or anything recently? Joanna Newsom's coming to Australia in January and I'm ridiculously excited.
Is Gone a single? If it is, it would definitely be at the top of my list.
In a top ten with a bunch of very complex and interesting songs, my favourite inclusion would have to be Hips Don't Lie. I love it when people are brave and honest enough to throw a Shakira song between Belle & Sebastian and Man Man, and I say that without a trace of irony.
And What You Know is a masterpiece. But everyone already knew that.
Dogville is a comedy??
Of course, there's the greatest film ever made on the subject.
Mulholland Drive (2001)
I love your placement of C.R.A.Z.Y., an excellent film that no one saw.

Good call on Dune and Elephant. I couldn't get that Dune theme out of my head for something like two months after watching that for the first time.
Really good list. What do you think of Okkervil River's other single For Real?
