i agree with a lot of this list, as well as many of your suggestions/likes but 21 guns by green day is probably my LEAST favorite song of 2009. i have been saddened lol
Apparently I'm a sucker for overly pretentious pop, but I love both the new Shins and the new Of Montreal. Those are, as of now, my favorite two albums of the year. The Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! album I was disappointed in, the same with Bloc Party (which though I liked it, I also didn't understand the massive hype behind). Keep up the list so I can keep coming back and seeing what's all new. Peace.
(As usual) Great list. Lots of my personal faves on here, specifically Islands, Ghostface, Decemberists, TV on the Radio, Belle and Sebastian and numorous other honorable choices. However, I really can't believe you dislike Boys and Girls in America so much. Personally, it moved itself right up to the top of my Hold Steady albums (and my list of albums from this year) and I wasn't all too suprised it wasn't your fave, but nowhere on the top 50? Really? And, perhaps I just haven't given it enough listens (1?) but I couldn't get into the Boris album the first time around. Might have to give that a couple more shots. Anyway, another year, another good list. Thanks.
Another great recommendation. Love the piano and the cinematic string arrangements throughout and [Emma, I believe] has a voice I instantly fell in love with. I've had trouble stopping listening to "Hate is All You Need and "Coming in From the Cold" since I got it. Would love another recommendation when you find the time.
Although I wasn't lining up to buy the new Jewel album, I have heard that it's quite good so I'm certainly not opposed to hearing it. I've actually dug some of her previous stuff, so who knows, maybe I would enjoy it. While I'm not going to go out of my way to find or purchase it, if it falls into my hands I'll surely let you know my feelings.
Thanks for the recommendation. FINALLY got my hands on the album and after the first few listens, love it. Much more melodic than I was expecting. Looking forward to my next one.
I did like Don't Believe the Truth. Very good album. Personally I enjoy Gordon as my favorite BNL album, although I haven't heard Maroon all the way through. As far as Radiohead, I would rate the albums:
Ok Computer
The Bends
Hail to the Thief
Kid A
My Iron Lung
Amnesiac
Pablo Honey
yo, thanks for the recommendations. I know plenty of the albums you listed and agree that many of them are necessary additions to the collection. Feel free to recommend some more.
Well, I'm a sucker for Piano Man just like everyone else in the world. On an even plane with that would be "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant". I will most likely be making a top 18 Billy Joel songs list very shortly. I'm also going to see him in concert in April, which I'm already extatic for. Your fave?
Interesting list of favorites. Personally I voted for Soft Serve, but my favorite Soul Coughing song changes slightly more frequently than my clothes. Have you heard any of Mike's solo work? Thoughts on it?

No more 'Crane Wife'?....I must say I'm stunned as the more I listen to that album the more I enjoy it.
wow, The Challengers fell right off? I'm a bit stunned, despite thinking this was the worst album theyve had.

Very true....their second best album in my opinion, only to The Moon and Antarctica.

Where do I vote for "Take on Me" by Ah-Ha?
