No worries. This list is mainly a jumping off point to begin with. I expect it to continue to change over time.

A few years ago I was looking at my old list and then at all the other book lists I had on here. I decided to combine them. It took forever and I tried to eliminate all the duplicates but thank you for catching the ones you did. I've added Richler's "Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz".

As I've been reading them I've highlighted or removed books. I didn't really enjoy "Gulliver's Travels" or "The Moonstone" so I removed them. I am however, very excited to read "The Woman in White".

Good luck with the longer list!

Yes I have removed books as I've read them and haven't enjoyed. I'll have to see about putting a list together.

Books I own but have not read yet

This is a very impressive list! Will you be posting your opinions after you read the books?

I'm glad you were able to find your way here. In an earlier post I mentioned 'if I read something that doesn't belong on the list I'll remove it. Also, if I read something that belongs on the list, I'll make a note of that.'

For example, I took "Lorna Doone" off the list because no one should ever have to read that awful awful book. I also added "The Last Spike" because for me, Pierre Berton is a man that makes history interesting and it was a good read.

I'll make a note of "Red Plant" and if I enjoy it, you may see it up on the list. As it is I don't think there's enough sci-fi/fantasy on the list or more recently published works.

1910's and 1920's: Movies I've Seen

Hi

I notice that you haven't included your 'Should See' list in your rankings. Are they a 'should' because they're that good? I've heard great things about "The Wind" but have yet to see it.

Actually Carmen was a novella by Prosper Merimee before it was an opera. Good luck with your list!

Hi LarsT

If you read the Author's Comment at the bottom you'd see that this extended list is an update I made in October. The original list had about 250 books. In the Author's Comment I mention that I doubt I'll read everything on the list but I wanted to combine all the tbr lists I'd been keeping.

Books I've read from "Books You Should Read If You Want To Consider Yourself Well-Read"

Hi

As you've mentioned this list is an amalgam of my original list and someone else's, not sure who. My list was a combination of book lists. I was so tired of having three or four book lists so I combined them. My list looks markedly different from this one now as I've just done a major update. It's now quite a bit longer than this one.

Thanks for the acknowledgement at the bottom and good luck with your list!

Books You Should Read If You Want To Consider Yourself Well-Read

Hi

The title of this post I believe may be originally from my book post created in 2005 as many of the selections are the same. I recognize Bizet's "Carmen" as I've received comments about this not being a book on 'List of Bests'.

When I first registered for listology I did find a book list like this with the $30 000 title at the top but I can't remember who originally began that book post. This list may be an amalgam of mine and the $30 000 post.
