I'll make sure to look for those! But I've gotta tell ya... X Track's "Plan 94" and Way Out West's "The Gift" have been on my Soulseek wish list for quite a while... no one seems to have them when I sign on! But the search still continues.
I've acquired, listened to, and added both to my list. Although I did NOT add the original version of Paul Oakenfold's "Southern Sun" to my list because it doesn't sound like trance to me at all- more like electric power pop. So I added the Gabriel & Dresden Remix instead.
Are you sure you've heard the original version? Or are you talking about the song that's looped on Ishkur's Guide for Electronic Music?
That version, my friend, is actually Spooky's Xylem Flow Mix- definitive progressive house. I don't understand why Ishkur didn't add that part in, but that's the version that plays on the music guide.
The original version is in fact more downbeat than ambient house. I didn't know this until I acquired the track myself from Beth Orton's greatest hits cd (her vocals are on the song, thus it also being included on her cd).
After that, I acquired the Xylem Flow Mix from William Orbit's single for "Water from a Wine Leaf," and I can't decide which one I like better... they're both extremely catchy...
But to answer your question- the original version is in fact very ambient house/downbeat and the Xylem Flow is the progressive version.
Yes! I have to agree that they sound a great deal like New Order, and I adore "Turn to Real Life," the beat, more than any other song, is the most reminiscent to the 80's sound; of course that's only my personal listening opinion.
No, The Understanding isn't all that trance involved at all. It's mostly experimental house and downbeat, with alot of trance elements. An entirely soothing cd.
I'm so glad to see Royksopp's "Beautiful Day Without You" on your list!!! That's my favorite song by them as well. Have you heard the rest of their album The Understanding? It's a very strong one indeed.
And as for what to start with, if you by any chance get your hands on their album, We Are Pilots, start out with the very first song, "You Are The One." Both Chad Petree and Karah Faye switch off vocals in that song. And I love that a pounding guitar melody is almost overtaken by the powerful synths. It's the first song I heard by them, and still one of my close favorites.
"Le Disko" is Shiny Toy Guns biggest hit; the one they're (unfortunately) known for. Don't get me wrong, I don't find it a weak piece at all. It's just style for a more party-type atmosphere, very different from most of the cd. But they do present themselves strongly in every song. That's another thing I like about them, they can produce an epic sound in both uptempo dance hits, and soothing ballads.
Ahhhhh "Stripped." Alas, it IS in fact a cover on Depeche Mode. And I did like the Depeche Mode original, due to the fact that Depeche Mode was one of my favorite 80's bands, but this version seemed to fill in all the needed musical gaps, if you will.
Shiny Toy Guns have only released one cd on the market, We Are Pilots. Stripped was an LP you could download they released back in 2006 containing the songs "Stripped" and "Nothing Compares to You."
The songs "Photograph," "Sky Fell Over Me," "Rocketship," "Turn to Real Life," "The Weather Girl," "Joel's Theme," "I Promise You Walls" and their version of "Puttin' On The Ritz" can be found on other imported versions of We Are Pilots, otherwise they can be found off of Soulseek as well.

I'll look for the other two as well! Thanx!
That would be absolutely awesome!!!

Hi there, thanx for your recommendations!

Again, thanx!
Hahaha, no it's perfectly fine :]

Jeesh... how many times am I gonna repeat that!?

I'm glad I could make a fan out of you :]

Where did you hear this song on TV?
- Tekkonkinkreet [anime]
- Kronk's New Groove

Hopefully you'll hear them and like them!!!
:-/ Umm I'm going with Jon Voight since Christopher Walken was already guessed wrong... (jeesh... adurrr... I don't know about myself sometimes.)
Oh and The Fountain (done by Darren Aronofsky, whom also did Requiem for a Dream and Pi)
Across the Universe [Not Sci-Fi]
Party Monster [Not Sci-Fi]
The Fifth Element [Sci-Fi]
And I can't decide if #16 is Jon Voight or Christopher Walken!!! Is that cheating if I'm town between two so I mention them both!?
