My Top 100 Favourite Movies Of All-Time

1922, does that mean you haven't seen "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" since you didn't rate it? imho, it's the best film on the list there. :)

Nice list, by the way. Some very good films there. Not a lot that would crack my top 25 (Eternal Sunshine the exception. ;)) But for the most part they are good films. :)

Good to see you liked "Mysterious Skin", I'm really looking forward to it and I'm hearing all kinds of great buzz. I heard Joseph Gordon-Levitt is excellent.

Live 8: Moments i liked and one i didn't

Yeah, great concerts. Great job by everyone there. I loved it so much. I tried to watch it all. I watched the whole Londen concert and extensive highlights from Philly.

Good call on the "7 Seconds" song by Dido and Youssou N'Dour. Loved it as well. Annie Lennox was very good as well. Three totally different songs, and she nailed it.

My (other) great moments:
The Who
Pink Floyd
Stereophonics
Joss Stone
R.E.M. (or maybe that was just because I saw them the week before and am still in awe of that. ;) )

Best of all was Stevie Wonder though. Amazing. "What the Fuss" and "Superstition" were absolutely great. That voice! Wonderful.

All in all, a great day.

Directors Acting In The Films Of Other Directors

Sydney Pollack, from the top of my head. Played in Allen's "Husband and Wives", among others.

Question About US DVDS (R1)

Then I have an additional question (don't want to highjack your post here, but since it's already answered. :) )

I'm from Europe and have a region free DVD player, can I play American DVD's? (So region isn't an issue, but I've heard things about PAL and NTSC or whatever they are). I've asked around when I was in the US, but no one could give me a definite answer. :)

Books Read In 2005

It's actually pretty funny that I've actually read 4 of the books you've listed in the last 6 months or so. :)

I absolutely loved "Memoirs of a Geisha" as well. Thought it was a masterpiece. "Things Fall Apart" also was a bit in the middle, I thought. Though still a good book. Same goes for "Mrs. Dalloway", though I think it was better than Achebe's and would probably give it a better rating.

We really disagree on "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" thought. :) I loved that novel. It got me thinking. It is a pretty deep novel, though I went through it like it was a comic book or something.

Oh, just see you've read 1984 as well. Also read that recently (10 months ago or so). Also thought that was a great book. It's easy to read, thrilling, and it provides a really interesting view on society and where it's going.

To see: Unwatched Films on VHS or DVD

Including me. :) I loved every minute of it. And if he means "fun" as in "rollin-on-the-floor-every-single-minute-out-of-laughter", then he is right. Because you won't. But it's a great film, imho.

Philadelphia by Demme is also a must see, imho. I assume you're a Shakespeare fan by all the works you've listed of him. Don't know if you've read them yet. But reading Richard the Third will be a better choice than watching the film, which tries to put it in a Second World War setting which doesn't quite work, imho. Though Ian McKellen is in great form.

10 Movies I Wish More Listologists Would See

Once Upon a Time in America and Requiem for a Dream are must sees. I keep a little list with my all-time favorite films and currently it only has 25-30 films or so, so that's not much if you consider how many films I've seen. Those two are definitely on there though. So I totally, 100% agree. :)

I remember wanting to go to bed a year ago or so, as it was 2 AM, and I flipped through the channels one more time. Once Upon a Time in America was just about to begin (beginning credits were rolling) and I thought I would watch a little. Four hours later I was still sitting there, not even realizing it was around 6 already. :) Great film.

Listologists Have Voted: The Ten Best Contemporary Actors!!! (The Results)

That's kind of been my criteria as well. I looked at what they've done in the past, sure, but they also should still be making great films. Hence, no DeNiro. If it was an All-Time list, then he would surely be on there (I mean, Raging Bull, Once Upon a Time in America, Taxi Driver, and so on). So they should have made great films in the past as well as present. Not only present of course, since that could mean that person just had a good year.

As for the Jim Carrey suprise, well, he has shown quite some range in the last few years, hasn't he? He can still do the rubber face comedy trick, but also showed great acting skills in "The Truman Show" and "Eternal Sunshine". And with the latter fresh in mind...

I actually liked "Closer". Maybe the film was cold because the characters are. :) All four of them are a bunch of you-know-whats. Sometimes, that's life. Their aren't many movies where all lead characters are like that. It intrigued me how easily they played with other people's feelings. I actually liked the dialogue. Especially one line uttered by I believe Jude Law at one moment. "What's so great about the truth? Try lying for a change, it's the currency of the world."

I actually didn't think Portman was miscast. I actually thought all four of them did a splendid job.

I can see why people don't love it though. It's not a film for everyone. But I thought it was a good film.

Tom Hanks (does everything equally great)
Dustin Hoffman (ditto)
Jim Carrey (Slapstick and drawn back. Oh my)
Robin Williams (Great comedian, great in drama, and his thriller's aren't that bad either)
Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset anyone? Also, Training Day helps)
Matthew McConaughey (Just watch his performance in "13 Conversations about One Thing")
Kevin Kline (From comedy to serious drama. His charisma is the clincher.)

You didn't like Melinda and Melinda? I thought it was a very good film. Excellent performance by Radha Mitchell, and it had some good dialogues and I loved the way the two stories had things in common yet those things were used very different in each of the storylines. I thought the script was very smart and witty. I gave it a 8.5 on a scale of 10, actually.

Good to see you liked Before Sunrise though. I saw Before Sunset a while ago and loved it, and I'm probably going to watch Before Sunrise this Friday. So your score makes me anticipate it even more. :)
