Yeah, The Alamo was disappointing. Better than the John Wayne version, but that's not saying much. Shame, no one's been able to make a really good film about the Alamo. Never saw DnD, though I heard it sucked.
You got Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones up there. Clearly it was bad, for the most part. But Star Wars 1: Phantom Menace was better? I mean, a whole cast of cardboard cut outs and Jar-Jar Binks to boot? The only interesting part about Phantom Menace was the duel between Liam Neeson with Ian MacGregor vs Darth Maul. The romance in Clones was at best tepid. I mean, the whole time Amadala acts like she "likes Anakin, but really just in a friend-kind of way," and then just before they're about to go into the arena with those monsters, she suddenly turns to him and says, "I've always loved you." Really? The entire film she acts like she can barely stand him, then all of a sudden she's in-love with him. I mean, I know Star Wars is kind of family oriented, but I want some passion in a romance. These are two young people, their spuds aught to be boiling. That's what I think was the problem with the first two prequals. There was too much thematic placating to the kids/family-oriented crowd.
Freddie Highmore was pretty impressive in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also. He's probably going to grow into an impressive adult actor also.
I heard Daniel Radcliffe was impressive in this last HP movie.
At least you have the decency and common sense to nominated Best Directors with their Pictures for Best Picture. That's more than you can say for the stupid Oscars.
Great lists and I am so glad you liked New World. I want that movie to do so well. I am a bit of a history buff, so there is some bias. But it seems so smartly written and made. The cinematography looks as beautiful as Days of Heaven's did.
I have to agree with just about all on this list. Haven't heard or remembered all of them, but the ones I do suck. This cover band caled Green Egss does Ice Ice Baby, and does it way better than Vanilla Van Winkle did.
Wonderful list. This is off subject, but I was in Hollywood Video the other day, looking through the Action Adventure section of DVDs. Does Boyz in the Hood count as an Action movie. I know there is violence and shooting in it, but it seems to be more of an urban drama that anything else. I don't know, I'm a really stickler about such stuff, which i shouldn't be.
I remember in One-Eyed Jacks, Marlon Brando's character is constantly taunted by Ben Johnson's character. Finally, Johnson says something about Karl Malden's daughter, Brando's love interest, and Brando snaps out and throws the table back and just stands challenging Johnson. His chair gets entangle with his leg, and Brando flings it away with his leg, emphasizing his rage. Brando had an amusing way of using props and accidents.
Did he direct The Appaloussa, the movie where he goes after Mexican bandits who steel his horse?
I saw Mp and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian with audio commentary, it's actully kind of funny listening to Palin, Cleese, and Idle explain things and stories. Palin's story about eating mud is funny, and they point out a couple times where they almost crack-up at their jokes. Supposedly during Holy Grail, Graham Chapman had a love affair with the bottle and he had the shakes so bad that he could barely speak two or three lines at a time, which is weird cause he ssems so regal and Shakespearean as Arthur.

Wonderful list. I totally agree about the Pearl Harbor trailer being great. Too bad the movie sucked, eh? Still awesome list

Great list. I agree with you on a lot of points.

Oedipus, we should give you an award for Best Achievement in Poll-Making on Listology.com

Did Leterrier direct Transpotting 2?
And I heard the Young Frankenstein commentary. Listening to Mel Brooks speak about Marty Feldman was kind of heartwarming.
