Yeah, I looked at Giamatti in a lenghty clip of Sideways, and thought, how was he NOT even nominated? However, I haven't seen the whole film, so until I do honestly see all of it, I can't make a 'nod' for them. And Downey not getting nominated for his turn as Avery, for Best Supporting, just disappoints me. It's not a total loss since he's cleared his drug habit and he's been given an intriguing couple roles. Downey's always going to be an indie/cult film darling, so it's not a big deal loss.
I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Last I heard the Pirates and The Steelers play here, but I am not sure of that. The Steelers do play here, but right now the Pirates only suck here. I think we could recruit the actors from the actual Pirates of the Caribbean movie, along with Keira Knightley, to our team and get better games out of them. I could see Johnny Depp as a good shortstop, but Orlando Bloom insists on pitching.
Yeah, The Alamo was disappointing. Better than the John Wayne version, but that's not saying much. Shame, no one's been able to make a really good film about the Alamo. Never saw DnD, though I heard it sucked.
Shooting John Wilkes Booth, whether God told you too or because you just wanted some shooting practice, is pretty commendable. Cutting your manhood off is real crazy shit. Maybe it was the death of his wife that drove him mad. Or mabye he just had a chemical imbalance, to say the least.
I also find interest in Sir Henry Morgan the Buccaneer, Bill Hicks (excellent comedian), Lincoln, Poe, Twain, and Steve McQueen.
One malee/swordfight I should have mentioned but didn't (I can't believe I didn't) was the sword fight between The Dread Pirate Robinson and Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride. One reason why I can't believe Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin don't get more offers for movie roles. Not only are the both decent actors, they both each studied and practiced their tails off to do that scene. I mean, that is them doing all that, it's not stunt doubles or anything, that is all them. If I have two decent actors who will be professional enough to learn and pull off a great swordfight like that, I'm gonna want them somewhere in my movies. That kind of professionalism is hard to find sometimes.
You got Star Wars 2: Attack of the Clones up there. Clearly it was bad, for the most part. But Star Wars 1: Phantom Menace was better? I mean, a whole cast of cardboard cut outs and Jar-Jar Binks to boot? The only interesting part about Phantom Menace was the duel between Liam Neeson with Ian MacGregor vs Darth Maul. The romance in Clones was at best tepid. I mean, the whole time Amadala acts like she "likes Anakin, but really just in a friend-kind of way," and then just before they're about to go into the arena with those monsters, she suddenly turns to him and says, "I've always loved you." Really? The entire film she acts like she can barely stand him, then all of a sudden she's in-love with him. I mean, I know Star Wars is kind of family oriented, but I want some passion in a romance. These are two young people, their spuds aught to be boiling. That's what I think was the problem with the first two prequals. There was too much thematic placating to the kids/family-oriented crowd.
I guess you are right ultimately. For MST3K to bash a movie, it pretty much had to be bad on all levels. Maybe some of these movies on the list aren't really appropriate then.
You don't have to feel guilty, just wanting to know how many of our fellow listologists take part is some vices. I have vices, we all have vices, just trying to find some familiarity. It's all good. I ain't gonna report you to the principal.
Well, It's very hard to beat a war-time President anyway, even if the war is somewhat bogus. The reason why Johnson was beated so easily is that he basically stepped down as President without actually resigning. He just said he would not seek a second term. I think Bush 1 lost because the economic recession planted by Reagan's "brilliant" economic strategy became a higher issue. And I think the first Iraq War was pretty much wrapped up by the time 1992 election came around. Possibly why Bush 2 extended the occupation in Iraq was to keep people's mind on the chaotic mess in Iraq. And also, perhaps Kerry wasn't the strongest candidate Democrats could have picked. I mean he was the lesser of two evils, but even his own party wasn't too in love with him.
Haven't seen the film yet. Perhaps when I see it and surmise it for myself, I will add him.

I wasn't aware he had Irish ancestry.

Wonderful list. I totally agree about the Pearl Harbor trailer being great. Too bad the movie sucked, eh? Still awesome list
Still He served, for argument's sake. A lot of these guys never saw combat, but they still served.

Thanks for the info. I will change it. or Add it.
