Author Comments:

Fantasy books in which the girl is the one who goes on the quest, slays the monster, and/or saves the world. Or even just herself. Hopefully may be a way to get a teenage girl interested in a new type of story, or books in general. Some are more for adults, but still have the female protagonist requirement.

If this isn't limited to teenage girls or something, there is The Spellsong Cycle by L.E. Modesitt

I hope not - are you familiar with Kushiel's Dart? (the heroine is a trained courtesan with a special gift for pain).

I'll add your recommendation, since I've never read it.

I just bought Kushiel's Dart over the weekend based on some recommendations. Haven't read it yet though!
