Since I'm completely acclimated to seeing my favorite of the nominated films not win, I usually draw a line where I'll be pleased to see anything above take home the Oscar and a second line where any movie below winning will make me frustrated and ashamed.

All categories are listed from the best to the worst. These rankings are based solely on who SHOULD win and not on guessing who WILL win.

Each time a film is mentioned for the first time, I include a rating of up to four stars. This rating applies to the film as a whole and not to the quality of whatever category where it is first mentioned.

Note: Once I've seen Anna Karnina, which is supposedly arriving here soon, I'll be able to add some of the technical categories, especially Cinematography (where I've seen the other four and Deakins' work in Skyfall is the obvious best).
