Do you have particular recordings in mind for the older compositions?
Which ones?
As for Gibbons: Gould's playing of the 3 pieces on the list. Pienaar for his complete piano works.
Heinrich Schütz - Symphoniae Sacrae III (Konrad Junghänel / Cantus Cölln / Concerto Palatino)
Claudio Monteverdi - Vespro della Beata Vergine 1610 (feat. La Capella Reial de Catalunya; conductor: Jordi Savall)
The list is far from complete, I only worked half an hour or so in it. This weekend i'll add alot. I put in the gibbons pieces to test how to list very short pieces.
All of them. Anything that does not have a definitive, singular, recording. There is no need wasting time listening to bad/lesser versions of anything.
I'm not going to list all my favorite interpretations here. My favorite conductors however include: Furtwangler, Herreweghe, Harnoncourt, and Savall. As for pianists: Schnabel, Gould, Uchida, Horowitz, Sviatoslav Richter.
Those are fine, but you should list what you think the best version of each composition is if you know.
I don't have to. This is a list of greatest compositions, not interpretations.
No, but if you have a preference, you should.
On your 'Favorite works of sound' list, you haven't included any preferred interpretations for the classical works either
Only for Varese because I know the specific release, the others I forgot to put on there when I originally listed them and now I don't know them. If I know of a particular performance, I do list it (there are a few in my music log--though I forgot the one for Liszt's S139). Also, I rarely listen to multiple performances of a work, so I wouldn't have a preference. I assumed SupremeTaste would know by listing so many works without a primary release by the artist.
impressive list. i fully agree with all of the high-ranking of bach's works.
Oh, and whatever you do, for heaven's sake, keep this list going!
Thanks, I will.
BTW, here's my classical list [however, its very, very incomplete and needs to undergo a great deal of developement]:

That's a nice list, I'll listen to the modern classical items I haven't heard yet. I do strongly disagree with many many picks, especially I think many older works are absent/rated too low, many modern works are rated too high, and a lack of Mozart / second Viennese school... my own list speaks for itself I guess.
I have rym too.

Although my activity is declining.
Right now, I'm primarily interested in 20th century music. But I plan on investigating 18th and 19th century music much more thoroughly in the future.
And like I said, the list is undergoing a great deal of development - many ratings are likely to change.
I listened 3 times to Shostakovitch 15th today, I like it quite alot.
great!
