X Factor: Each Week's Performances Ranked [out-of-date]
_Notes: I'm supporting Andy, Journey South and Chenai
Live Show 3 (29 Oct) | Phillip booted
Excellent
Andy - (Unforgettable by Nat King Cole) - Been a fan from the start, but really upped his game tonight. Outstanding, vocals were pitch perfect. Good choice for him too.
Chenai - (Hero by Mariah Carey) - Spot-on vocals, tackled a hard song excellently. Despite the criticism, I find her diction rather good and her lisp is barely noticeable.
Journey South - (Angel Of Harlem by U2) - Great interpretation of "Angel Of Harlem", seems they're better at rock than I thought. Not quite as good as last week's though.
Good
Maria - (Take Another Piece Of My Heart by Janis Joplin - Did the Janis Joplin classic very, very well. Powerful voice. Lacks any real emotion though.
Phillip - (Johnny B. Goode) - Improved on last week, seems like rock and roll is really his thing. A shame he had to go, he didn't deserve to.
Conway Sisters - (Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler) - Not the right song for them IMO. Parts were great, parts were a bit poor. Didn't live up to the original but not bad.
OK
Shayne - (Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams) - Agree with Simon in that he didn't have the right voice for Summer of '69. Vocals were sharp though.
Brenda - (Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Knight) - She isn't Gladys Knight, but she did this song fairly well, though I continue to remain disenchanted by her performances.
Poor
Chico - (Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin) - Not as entertaining as last week, but still fun to watch. Vocals as poor as ever though.
Nicholas - (Let's Stay Together by Al Green) - Worse than last week, his voice just isn't very good. He needs to go soon.
Live Show 2 (22 Oct) | 4Tune booted
Excellent
Journey South - (Desperado by Eagles) - Really surprised me tonight, have joined the ranks of my favourite contestants on the strength of this song. Brilliant vocals, a class act all around.
Chenai - (Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton) - Also surprised me. Amazing vocals and stage presence, another to add to my favourites list.. Very glad she stayed, I was surprised she was in the bottom two.
Andy - (You To Me Are Everything by Real Thing) - My favourite act. Vocals were great as ever but the song probably wasn't right for him - it didn't do his voice justice IMO. Never mind, there's always next week.
Conway Sisters - (You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban) - Excellent vocals from a band who last week I thought were rather poor. Great improvement, clearly very talented, good choice of song too.
Good
Shayne - (If You're Not The One by Daniel Bedingfield) - Not a big fan, but he was good tonight. Impressive vocals, has a good stage presence too.. maybe we have a winner on our hands here, I see him appealing to a lot of people.
Maria - (The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson) - Powerful vocals admittedly, but I didn't find her very likeable tonight unfortunately. Still, she has a lot of talent, probably more than tonight showed, so I'm glad she stayed.
Alright
Phillip - (Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler) - Vocals weren't as bad as they were made out to be, but he still wasn't that great. Didn't deserve to go as many believe, but he needs to improve - and calm those nerves - to stay in much longer. Such potential..
4Tune - (I'll Be There) - Average performance. Technically spot-on, perhaps, but in practice far too bland, and as Cornchips put it, uninspiring. Didn't deserve to go, but better them than Chenai.
Chico - (Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry) - He can't sing too well, but he does have a great stage presence and it's good to have someone like him in the competition. I hope he stays for a while yet.
Poor
Nicholas - (Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye) - Mediocre singing from a mediocre singer. Maybe he's just not my thing, but I can't imagine this guy winning such a competition with vocals with such third-rate Marvin Gaye-imitation vocals. Nice guy, though.
Brenda - (Rescue Me by Aretha Franklin) - Overblown karaoke singer. Deserves to go very soon. Why she's so popular here I'll never know.. not terrible, but that's not good enough in the top 12. Her latest performance was, as ever, just passable.

Nice idea, let me give some of my opinons to the mix.
Ok, in reference to this saturday's show (Oct29) Heres my thoughts:
Best:
Maria: I loved her performance on that song. the crowd were crazy for it, vocals were top notch. though you said it lacked emotion, i agree and disagree. i agree that it lacked the emotional "emotion" but it had lots of style and vibe too it. She kind of just owned it really, took it and really got the tone of the song. My favourite so far, of any of them. Maria Too Win!
Andy: The song was perfect for him, i think he should do about 2 / 3 more of these types and then try something new. Based on talent, he's up their with the best.
shayne: I have too admit to not liking him too much. i feel he and phillip are too boring, and sterotypical of xfactor singers however, i feel that "Summer of 69" is such a good song that it's good however its sung and whoever by, so i liked it, he did well with a classic.
Worst:
Chico: He Has No Voice, End Of.
-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-
so thats my opinon. as for the others. i was let down by Journey South, Angel of harlem is my favourite U2 song and i felt they ONLY JUST did it justice. Nicholas did well i think with it, my only gripe being it was too much like the original, which i love but felt he could of given a twist too it, made it his own.
-----------
Oh and this sunday's Simpsons was brillaint! back to form ay? brilliant stuff from MG.
Ah, thought you might post on this article! :)
Simpsons - definitely one of the strongest in a few years, good stuff.
X Factor -
Maria: yeah, she's got style, she's got substance, but I just can't see her heart really being in it. Strong vocals, but for lack of a better phrase, I didn't "believe" her performance to a big enough extent for her to grab my vote.
Andy: Agreed.
Shayne: Really? Huh! What do you think he should do next week? If he does a contemporary song, Angels, or something else by Robbie Williams might be OK
Chico: Fair enough! Agreed. My sister likes him though, haha.. wonder why(?)
Nicholas: Still don't like him, I'm afraid, not my style at all.
Journey South: You're right. Their performance was IMO great, whilst falling short of their Desperado, but in comparison to U2's brilliant original it's not all that great. I hope they do better next week, though admittedly if they stay at the same quality they were last week they're still bound to do very well in the competition.
What did you think of Chenai, the Conways and Brenda on Saturday?
Chenai was very good, even though she is always nervous, i think they should keep her singing power tunes, she's brilliant at them. Can't really remember what Conways and Breda were like but in general i don't think either will win, but Brenda could come close (3rd 4th is my thinking.)
I only caught the recap of each singer at the end of the show, but I stand by most of my opinions from last week.
A few things:
Why do people like Chenai so much? She's got an okay voice, but absolutely no stage presence. Oh well, people seem to like Mariah Carey as well, which also baffles me.
Brenda is pretty good, and I like her presence, but her voice is just a little too nice. I think she'd be better off to lose the perfect softness and get a bit of attitude.
Why, why, why do these pretty boys think they can do rock? Shayne and Phillip both have perfectly serviceable voices, but if they lack the edge to do rock. Even Bryan Adams had the necessary gravel in his voice, and he's now the king of inoffensive material. I think that sums these guys up: inoffensive. Real stars remove their safeties and risk going over the top.
I feel like I'm talking in hackneyed cliches, but the show's called X-Factor, and I'm not sure any of them really have it.
where the hell can i hear the xfactor contestent sing there songs?????
dont know
seeing as it was bonfire night like normal people i went to a bonfire and missed the xfactor(gutted)i have been searching the net for somewhere i can hear them sing but cant find anywhere even on the xfactor website.

Just watched Xfactor Tonight, Now Maria is gone they have lost the best of the bunch. I am shocked she went, it's not fair. I am no longer watching X facotr (well for at least 2 weeks!) :(
Lol. Well, I agree it was a shame she went, but better her than Andy or JS! ;) I'd certainly rather have seen the Conways go, and it looks like even Louis himself is regretting his decision.
This list seriously needs updating...
I thoguht JS's performance was very weak compared to the rest they have done in the past. i also doubt whether a brother & Brother band will sell well chart wise. Though i am not saying they are bad, just they have done better IMO. when they do good they are very good.
Also when thinking about Maria going you also have to take in account that it's Simon's show. Does he really want one band at this point in? his monney pays for this. However i think even he would admit the wrong one went. I hope Maria has a great career ahead of her, i sure she does.
D'oh, I really liked JS! Not their best, but not therir worst, IMO. Good point about Maria, however seeing as Simon is involved in the rpiduction of the show and whoever's act it is they get signed to his record company, he's bound to get loadsa cash anyways! *g*
I was surprised he [Simon] didn't vote the Conways off, personally..
