While the web will never replace traditional books

While the web will never replace traditional books and movies, it is an amazing new media -- of which the Listology is an excellent example. A List Apart has a list of 10 more -- the winners of their web design contest.

A List Apart is a great moderated mailing list and accompanying web site for web designers. I was, however, a little disappointed in their choices. Probably, they had to settle, because the Listology wasn't entered, nor were any of my sites.
Hey, thanks for the kudos, both here and in the original post. But after looking at the winners, I don't think The Listology would have placed, even had it been considered. Not artsy enough. The price I pay for being a programmer first and a designer second (and a distant second at that :-). Someday I'm really going to have to work on my design skills (but never ever ever at the expense of poor dialup users (like myself)).
One of the reasons I was disappointed with their choices was that the winning sites were supposed to be compatible with all levels of browser sophistication. Some of the winners weren't even close to being Netscape 2 compatible, let alone lynx friendly.
The Listology, on the other hand, is incredibly functional (though I, for one, could certainly use a preview button) and has a very easy-to-use interface. An elegant design, really. The site I had planned to enter doesn't use any Flash or javascript or anything, but I am still proud of it. Don't worry about your design skills. I've got high-speed DSL and I still prefer simple, content-oriented sites like The Listology.
Yeah yeah, a preview feature is very high on my to do list. :-)
Interesting fact: You and kbuxton have separately suggested the exact same enhancements, all of which I intend to implement just as soon as my sanity returns. Keep 'em coming!
thanks for posting this, though--i really loved the wwww.rivertrout.com site. (ps, jim--sites that are conceptually brilliant don't need fancy-schmancy designs. listology rocks!)
Thanks! (I liked the rivertrout site as well)
