What I'm Listening to Today: 2/26/04

Annie Lennox - "Bare" - 10:00 A.M. - "A Thousand Beautiful Things" is a super track, if only I could think of a thousand beautiful things to say about it, but my simple words wouldn't be sufficient. Lennox has probably the most unique female voice I've ever heard. At a time where I can hardly tell Brittney from Christina on the radio, Lennox stands out above everyone else. Her lyrics are deeply emotional and seems to open the story of her life like a book to everyone who is listening. I really am interested in the use of multi-layered tracks, especially in track #4, "Honestly." For first timers to the music of Annie Lennox, I would probably recommend either her "Diva" album, or "Medusa." My favorite of hers is "Medusa," although most would probably recognize many of the songs on "Diva." (I just noticed her album titles are only one word: "Diva," "Medusa," and "Bare.")

David Bowie - "Heathen" - 1:00 P.M. - David Bowie is my favorite music artist, and "Heathen" is my favorite David Bowie album, therefore, "Heathen" is my favorite album. (How is that for a mathematical proof?) "Cactus" is a very sexy song. (What song from David Bowie ISN'T sexy? The man has S-E-X written all over him.) "Will you take off your dress and send it to me?" he sings in "Cactus." I'll do whatever you ask, David! "Slip Away" sends chills up and down my spine. The man has a voice that really gets to me. I mean REALLY gets to me. He croons to me and serenades me with that voice of his. "A Better Future" is probably my favorite song on this album. I say "probably" because they're all so great it's hard to pick one above the others. There is a bonus track on the end of the CD of a mix of "A Better Future!" Makes my day, "Hunky Dory," so to speak.

Billy Bragg & Wilco - "Mermaid Avenue II" - 2:50 P.M. - *yawn*
