Tubular Bells

As I write this I am listening to a CD of Mike Oldfield's classic Tubular Bells. The marvellous thing about this is that the music remains as fresh to my ear as it was when I first heard it back in 1973. This is a property that truly classic art has: it remains forever young. Sure, the performance is far from perfect, and 'serious' musicians may turn up their noses at how ragged some of the playing is, but the mind's ear is nonetheless entranced. If by great misfortune you have never listened to this music, well...do.
Btw, the CD I have also includes the rollicking "Sailor's Hornpipe", and, the very epitome of rollick, "Portsmouth".
