Sylvia Cycle III

She rode the rails
From Memphis, Tennessee to university.
I knew from her weary eyes
Someone was behind
Driving her on.

The night she sighed
She really should go
And remained half-dressed
On the knotty dorm room mattress,
I thought I might be
The end of the line.

Sylvia, I cried
As the melted flesh
Glued our chests together.
Sylvia, I cried
As we lied gulping breath.

But Sylvia had many ills
I could never understand.
Sylvia took many pills.

I still can't understand.
