So many screenwriters on Listology

I think I've figured out why it seems like there are so many screenwriters on Listology. The IRS allows screenwriters to claim 50 per cent of the cost of movies, DVD rentals and meals out with fellow screenwriters as a business expense. Makes me want to be a screenwriter.

:-) I think you only get a couple years of operating at a loss though before the IRS comes after you. You have to make money at the business once in awhile to keep the IRS happy with such deductions. Not positive, but I think so.

There are screenwriters on Listology?

Are you being funny?

I'm 100% serious. I had no idea there was anyone on Listology who classified themself as a screenwriter.

Well, maybe no one who has acutally sold a script and had it made into a film, but I think there are a handful of aspiring screenwriters here.

Heck, I don't even think you need a sale to consider yourself a screenwriter. I just never noticed the (not so?) subtle hints.

Speaking of screenwriting, is anyone watching the new Project Greenlight?

You are/were one, weren't you?

I searched a bit, and found confirmation that Jenhowel has been hired as a screenwriter, and Lukeprog is studying to be one (if he would ever attend class). What's the name of that rhetorical fallacy that generalizes from just a couple of instances?

I'm not sure if I've ever talked about this here, but I actually did want to be a screenwriter for a good part of my life, but my dad convinced me that it would be really tough to enter into the film industry that way. So here I am at business school. I do hope that if I do establish myself in the film industry that I get the opportunity to do something artistic as well.

BTW, I wrote an 80-page screenplay a couple years ago, but I think it's pretty bad. A very amateurish attempt.

Yes, it seems I recall your saying something like that.

OK. Maybe it's just my perception of things, but it seems like they're all over the place, like actors in an LA restaurant. There are more here than in the population at large.
