Save Star Trek!!!!
Just to let all you Trekkies out there know (and all casual Star Trek fans as well), recently UPN announced that it would be cancelling the latest Star Trek series, Enterprise, at the end of this season. With the last film faring poorly at the box office, and UPN stating that it's decided to target urban and female demographics, it seems like it could be the end of Star Trek.
For those of you who watched Enterprise but gave up on it, and those who haven't seen it yet, and even for those people who dislike Star Trek in general I would really suggest checking in with Enterprise before it's gone. Despite a shaky start, the series has slowly evolved over the last couple of years to become one of the most thought-provoking, subtly political and interesting series on network television. Under the leadership of new showrunner Manny Coto and new writers recruited from Star Trek novel-writing, this season the show has drastically improved in quality, tackling multiple story arcs, developing and fleshing out it's characters, dabbling in romance and earning it's place in the larger Star Trek universe.
For people who don't even like Star Trek, Enterprise is easily the most accessible Star Trek series to date (besides the original, of course). It's got a much more lighthearted, straightforward tone than the other series, with interesting characters and fantastic visual effects. If you're a fan of action-adventure series, or are looking for a show you can watch with your whole family, Enterprise is it.
So, before it's gone, give it a chance.
If all my talk is pointless because you're already a fan and want to join in the Save Our Show campaign, not just for Enterprise, but for Star Trek in general, than you should head to Trek United After taking out a full page ad in the Los Angeles Times, they've now taken the campaign international.
There are rallies planned at TV affiliates in various states, and even overseas. The rally in L.A. will be at Paramount, and attended by the cast of the show. It's all part of an ambitious plan to get attention, and to raise enough money to allow Paramount to fund the next season of the show, roughly 32 million dollars. While that may sound impossible, there are millions of Trekkies out there worldwide, and they've already raised over $40,000, in just a couple of short weeks.
*Just to quickly update and let people know, Trek United has now raised over 3.1 million dollars, and succeeded in convincing Paramount not to tear down the sets yet. Spike TV has also expressed interest in picking up the show... So as hopeless as it might seem, and for all the naysayers out there, there is still hope, and there is still time to save the show. It's not over yet.
So, to summarise:
Watch Star Trek: Enterprise, Friday nights at 8pm on UPN in the U.S. and on CityTV in Canada.

You may now want to kill me, but I ... (I don't even dare)... have never seen a single Star Trek-film or episode. Now it's said. Oops, am I fallen from grace? :)
Well... all I'll say is that if you're gonna get into Star Trek, Enterprise is a good place to start... My sister actually knew nothing either, and she watches Enterprise with me religiously now... Are you a science fiction fan? Because if you're a sci-fi fan and you've never seen Star Trek, that's unforgivable... but if you just don't like sci-fi, well that's ok...
Am I a sci-fi fan?... Hmm... *thinking*, no I don't think so. I do like Star Wars (E. IV-VI) and The Terminator-films (at least, the first 2), but there my love for Sci-Fi already ends.
Oh, and I love Alien...
Thanks for the tipp.
