From Pivvclam to Justin & Kelly: A Rant

Tags:

I don't go to the movies as often as I used to, mainly due to the arrival of our son six months ago(I think any new parents can relate to this), but partly because of the proliferation of truly bad offerings in entertainment. As I perused this weeks listings of movies I won't see;"From Justin to Kelly" struck me as particularly worthless. True, I will never see this movie to actually judge it's value, but it can't possibly be any better than horrible. Does anyone WANT to see this movie? If so, couldn't they just show it on the Fox Family channel?
It is bad enough that these "American Idol" people are almost unavoidable on the TV and the radio, but now they are expecting people to PAY to see this movie! The dollars involved in making & promoting this movie, plus the eventual box office receipts (Whatever they are, I hope they are scarcer than WMD's in Iraq) could feed MASSES of hungry people. Here are 5 things that money could be better spent on:
5. A cure for a disease-pick one they could all benefit from the extra funds
4. I could really do a fantastic remodel on our home with that money, maybe even hire Norm Abrahm
3. We could send "Dubya" back to Yale, where he could broaden his education to include such previously avoided subjects as "English" "Geography" "History" & "Economics". He could stay how ever long it took him to pass, without the help of Dick Cheney.
2. Free gas for everyone for as long as the money holds out.
1. "From Saddam to Osama: A Love Story" THAT I would pay to see!

Preaching to the choir, pivvclam.

Hey, belated congrats on the arrival of your son! I don't go to the movies very often for many of the same reasons (kids, then dreck, although people talking through movies is another big deterrent for me). When I do go it's just for the movies that need to be seen on the big screen with big sound. Netflix brings me the rest.

Sad thing is this movie will do well. Probably over a hundred million dollars. Of course to keep things in perspective, they have been making these teenage wet dreams for a long, long time. Frankie and Annette anyone? Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland for the retiring crowd.

Its too bad the damn duo cant sing. That moppet head guy is really bad...

You think? I have a feeling it might flop, but I've been very wrong about these things before. I mean, it is up against The Hulk (for the boys) and Alex and Emma (for the ladies and, er, me).

On a related note, I'll tell you something sad. I was watching MTV oh so briefly before taking off for work this morning (they enticed me with a few minutes on The White Stripes), and saw a new dance video I thought actually wasn't too bad. The end revealed the startling truth. It was Miss Independent by Kelly Clarkson. Much better than that first single, the terrible A Moment Like This. The volume was rather low, but still, I am a bit ashamed. It really was pretty good...

Maybe I was in a bit of a good mood this morning (heck, it is Friday), but I didn't even think the new Michelle Branch video was that bad... Am I growing soft?

Stay the hell away from the new Liz Phair, though!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs (who just told you all much more than he perhaps should have...)

Justin and Kelly is going to flop like a big dead fish. I'm envisioning Real Cancun numbers. But I could be wrong! :-)

This just in...

The Real Cancun Box Office - $2,108,796 in its first week of release. $3,816,594 overall gross.

From Justin to Kelly - $2,875,000 in its first week of release. Overall gross still pending.
