I must say that A Beautiful Mind was probably the best film nominated, but I used to think Lord Of The Rings held that honor. I was much more suprised with Monsters Ball on second viewing than I was on first. It could be the best film of the year, but it was not nominated, so there. Halle Berry definetly deserved her statue. Lets have some chat time shall we?

WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't seen A Beautiful Mind, but it's hard for me to imagine it's better than Lord of the Rings. Prior to release, I would have estimated the chances of LotR succeeding on such a grand scale to be a 1000 to 1 long shot. But it did, which is an impressive achievement. Should meeting lofty expectations against all odds count heavily in an estimate of "best"? I think so. I'm also thinking it would have been a mortal lock if not for the fantasy genre stigma.
I dont know man. 2001 was a hard year for me. There was about 6 or 7 movies that are so great and evenly matched, it really is hard to think of the best one. Lord Of The Rings is serious dude.
I think that if you are going to nominate four fabulous films, and then give it to the mediocre fifth, you should at least deny Opie the Best Director Oscar.
This one is going down in my all time worst Oscar results list.
How on earth can you say that Nathanial. did you not love A Beautiful Mind?
I liked A Beautiful Mind fine. I thought that it was not my type of film at all though. I guess that this and Hearts in Atlantis fall into the same category for me. I can't stand films that coast on toying with the viewer's emotions. That is the type of film that I will always disagree with people on.
That said, it has a lot of good things going for it.
ok.
