My Problem With Star Wars

Tags:

ok i knew i'll hit alot of nervs with this article but i'm ready for the Backlash :)

well it annoys me when i see "Star Wars" as the #1 best movie of all time, now i don't mean "Favourite" movie, because i have no right to debate that. but when it is mentioned as the "BEST" movie of all time, or "Greatest" that annoys me.

Why you ask..well i'll tell you

its because "Star Wars" series is so different to any other iflm and is its own genre (in a sense) i just think its un-fair to the rest. this also applies to the "Lord of the rings" series. because they are their own movie, they can't and have no example to be judged by, so by that it is un-fair to class them as the greatest. maybe i'm way out of line here, i probably am. Dont get me wronmg i love the star wars and lord of the rings series but i don't see them as "Films" in the traditional sense.

sorry. feel free to argue this point.

Interesting. I think any movie that you name as the #1 best movie of all-time must be different in some good way - maybe not genre-wise, but in many other ways. Some of what Citizen Kane, The Godfather, etc. did was so different from what had been done before, that these differences are what make the movies so respected. I mean, I agree that Star Wars should not be called the #1 best movie, but I'm a bit confused by your reasoning.

well , what i meant was that i think its un-fair for star wars to take too much praise. but really lord of the rings is worse at this.

ok, well put it this way, lord of the rings is numbers 2,8, & 9 on the IMDB top 250 list. now i just think that that is not fair, because reallly (like star wars, that place 10 & 21) they are "one" film. one on going story. yet they hog up all that space and in general dominate so many "top 10 / 20 / 100" lists.

I see. Well, I don't really think anything can be done about the IMDB's list, as they have to have a separate page for each movie, and if each movie independently gets high ratings, then each movie ranks high.

Again, I agree that the LOTR movies have gotten phenomenal amounts of hype. But I imagine (I don't know, because I haven't seen all of them) that each one does have its own flavor, despite the fact that all three were shot at the same time. This is even more true of the Star Wars movies (the good ones, at least), which were not only shot at different times, but also featured three different directors.
