- Connect a network cable to the computer.
- Connect the computer and monitor to electrical outlets.
- Turn on the computer and monitor.
- Inventory
- Verify CPU type and speed.
- Security Setup, Part 1
- Install and/or configure firewall.
- Install and/or configure antivirus software.
- Network Setup, Part 1
- Test Internet connection.
- Security Setup, Part 2
- Download and install operating system updates.
- Download and install current antivirus definitions.
- Download, install and run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and correct sensible issues noted in Security Report.
- Optimize Performance
- Download and install the latest BIOS updates for your computer, if the BIOS is not current.
- Download and install the latest driver for your modem, if you have a modem and the driver is not current.
- Download and install the latest driver for your monitor, if the driver is not current.
- Download and install the latest driver for your motherboard's chipset, if the driver is not current.
- Download and install the latest driver for your sound card, if you have a sound card and the driver is not current.
- Download and install the latest driver for your video card, if the driver is not current.
- Download, install and run Autoruns, review list of auto-start programs and disable unnecessary programs.
