If I ran the Oscars

If I had control of the academy right now (which of course I don't, and never will), I would put these people's and movies names in the envelopes come March 25.
BEST ACTOR: Ed Harris
Because he has never won an academy award, despite all of his brilliant performances. I have not seen Pollock, but its gotta be better than Tom Hanks and Russel Crowe's performances.
BEST SUPP. ACTOR: Benicio Del Torro
Simply the best performance all year, hands down.
BEST ACTRESS: Julia Roberts
Because I love her so much, plus she wasn't bad in "Erin", not bad at all.
BEST SUPP. ACTRESS: Frances McDormand
I finally saw Almost Famous, and Frances McDormand struck me as better than Kate Hudson. I guess I came into the movie expecting too much from Mrs. Hudson, but I thought that McDormand was excellent, and I hope she wins.
BEST DIRECTOR: (tie) Steve Soderburgh, Traffic and Ang Lee, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The first tie for Best Director ever is well deserved by both candidates. Ang Lee does a masterful job commanding the screen with lush visuals, and Steve Soderburgh does a brilliant job controlling the multiple stories and cinematography of Traffic.
BEST PICTURE: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This is a great film. That's all.

There you go, these are from the present nominees only, some categories would be different if I had the choice.

I agree with all your choices but Julia Roberts. That was a mediocre film with her over acting. The performance to beat is Laura Linney in You Cant Take It With You. Followed closely by the old pro Ellen Burstyn in Requiem For A Dream.

I have not seen any performance other than Julia's. I really am hoping to see You Can Count on Me, but its not playing anywhere near me. Niether is RFAD.

You Can Count On Me. Thats what I meant. What was I thinking.

Julia Roberts will win but Ellen Burstyn and Laura Linney are both more deserved...

Re: Best Actor and Supporting Actor

Have you seen Javier Bardem's performance in Before Night Falls?

No I haven't, its not playing remotely near me, unfortunately.

Well, I haven't seen Pollock! :-) SO both performances might be equally good. But of those I've seen I'd definitely choose Bardem over Hanks and Crowe.
