GAME: Guess Movie by Script Excerpt!

Below are several pieces of different scripts. Your goal is to guess the movie they resulted in. The trick is that none of these are excerpts from final shooting scripts, so things may have changed a bit (some more than others) by the time the movie was finally shot! Good luck.

-----One-----Star Wars, got by stooky
KANE
No tracks. Bi-lock hasn't been opened....Interior systems are still on....

ANNIKIN
Are we going to wait for him to come out?

KANE
He's not in there....He's baiting us. I'm surprised they only sent one this time. We must be wearing them down, or they must think this knight is something special....Stay on guard, and keep hidden. I'm going to work my way across the ridge and call his bluff. Better we meet in open combat than wait for him to ambush us....Keep your guard!

Kane leaves his two sons and moves off along the obscured ridge. Annikin and Deak watch him intently. Annikin throws down his multiplelaser rifle in disgust.

-----Two-----Evil Dead II, got by stooky
PROFESSOR KNOWBY
(Voice on tape)
I cannot bring myself to dismember
my wife, yet I know that I must, to
halt the evil that lives within her.
----------

-----Three-----The Godfather, got by bertie
LAMPONE, backed up by two other MEN in his regime, runs down
the iron-rail steps, and kicks in the door on Room 7F.
PHILIP TATTAGLIA, old and wizened and naked, leaps up; a
semi-nude young GIRL leans up.

They are riddled with gunfire.
----------

-----Four-----2001: A Space Odyssey, got by bertie
EXT CAVE - NEW ROCK

Moonwatcher comes face to face with the New Rock when he leads the tribe down to the river in the first light of morning. He had almost forgotten the terror of the night, because nothing had happened after that initial noise, so he does not even associate this strange thing with danger or with fear. There is nothing in the least alarming about it.
----------

-----Five-----Brazil, got by bertie
A Security vehicle in full banshee howl roars through the streets. We roar along with it as it rounds a corner and skids to a halt at a safe but striking distance from JILL's lorry. Heavily armed SECURITY POLICE pour out and take up firing positions behind parked cars or whatever other cover is available. Searchlights are played on the lorry. The OFFICER IN CHARGE appears with a loud-hailer.
----------

-----Six-----A Wonderful Life, got by bertie
GEORGE
You know what we're going to do? We're going to shoot the works. A whole week in New York. A whole week in Bermuda. The highest hotels - the oldest champagne - the richest caviar - the hottest music, and the prettiest wife!
----------

-----Seven-----Blade Runner, got by bertie
Deckard slides down the wall to his knees and huddles, protecting his head with his arms, waiting for the next one.

Leon folds his big hands together and raises them over his head, pausing just a second to savor the satisfaction of smashing Deckard's skull.

The spasm that runs through Leon's face is not from satisfaction. It's the bullet that went through his neck. He hits the ground hard, his big teeth biting the air like a rabid dog. Dead.
----------

-----Eight-----
LENNY
Boss, get ready to get happy.
----------

-----Nine-----Saving Private Ryan, got by JoeGraham
IN THE GAP

BULLETS EVERYWHERE.

Three are HIT. Then another. POTATO MASHER GRENADES bounce down. EXPLODE below. THE GERMAN MACHINE GUN swings toward Sarge and Reiben. Miller sees them about to get it...

MILLER STEPS OUT INTO THE OPEN.

A perfect target. Captain's bars glinting. FIRING. TRYING TO DRAW THE GERMAN FIRE.
----------

-----Ten-----Go, got by directorspen
In a SERIES OF QUICK SHOTS we see Tom desperately trying to get the car into Drive as the truck gets closer.

Tom finally gets the shifter to move and floors it, but in a CLOSE UP we see it has accidentally LANDED IN REVERSE.

Tom looks up expecting to go forward as the car goes lunging backward out into the street.

In an AERIAL SHOT we see the truck SLAM INTO TOM'S CAR AT FULL SPEED. Both cars go spinning and rolling all over the street - - landing upside down.

Cloned From:

2. Evil Dead/ Maybe evil Dead 2 as well
1. Star Wars: The Attack Of The Clonenators

3. no idea

T'ho

:?)

You're close on #1. And #2 is correct!

Episode 3 perhaps, don't know what it's called. Probably The Return Of Lucas' Mega Ego And Average Film-Making. :?)

T'ho

:?)

Gah. It's from Episode IV, I'll just give it to you :-)

An early draft of the script, obviously.

You fooled me with the Annikan reference, I now remember the scene now. Thanks for taking pity, my brain is as mushy as Dagobah.

T'ho

:?)

3 is one of the Godfather movies. Not sure, but I'll guess G2.

yup! Actually G1.

Oooooooo! drat. It was fermenting in my brain all today and I almost had it. Bert strikes again.

T'ho

:?)

4 is easily 2001: A Space Odyssey.

5 is it Brazil? If it is I'm good. I'm damn good!

6 sounds familiar, like an old movie re-released on DVD and recently watched.

4: correct
5: yes it is, and yes you are!

But not good enough to trick any hints out of you, I see :-)

not quite. In this case, I'm quite certain there will be somebody who will recognize that one without any hints. But kudos for trying; as you know, I've been known to give out hints quite freely in the past! Just wait until I become impatient with how long it's taking people to guess the items in this game, and then you won't have any problems getting hints out of me! :-)

luke, may I offer some friendly advice? Good, here it is. I suggest that you omit any character surnames that appear in the pieces of scripts because such names often give the game away too easily. A good example is -----Seven-----, which begins with the surname Deckard, which is a giveaway that the movie is Blade Runner.

yes, that's probably a good idea. Thanks. I keep forgetting that other people keep track of character names a lot more than I do.

Is 9 perhaps Saving Private Ryan

Indeed!

8. Midnight Run?

:?)

if that excerpt is directly from a script for Midnight Run, it's a remarkable coincidence.

I was right about 6; it is an old movie re-released on DVD and recently watched. I've just played it again for my mother. George is George Bailey and the movie is It's A Wonderful Life.

you bet :-)

10) Go?

wow, nice one! It's actually from an early draft, yup.
