I'm going to see MUSE on Sunday at Wembley stadium.
How about Citezen Erased from Origin Of Symmetry, or Butterflies and Hurricanes from Absolution, both often amongst people's favourites.
Butterflies and Hurricanes i'm not a huge fan of but yes, Citizen Erased is in, i just forgot, cheers for head up
have a great time at the gig mate
I agree - Butterflies and Hurricanes is (slightly) overrated.
Citezen Erased is simply awesome.
I'm listening to Origin Of Symmetry right now in preparation for tomorrow.
Nice list!
thx Wezzo! you can sample some tracks with my new article on my profile (can't think of url now!) but its on my profile
So would you consider Oasis the greatest artists in rock history?
hhmmm quite possibly. you only have to look through their work to see how many anthems they have contributed to music scene and they captured a voice of britain during the 90s. They have had 4 great albums (Deff maybe, Whats the story, Masterplan & Be Here Now - yes i liked be here now, long yes, but there are some moments of genius there - ) and their most recent has also a solid array of songs.
My fave aspect about their music though is how lyrically up-beat they are, all their songs are about bettering yourself and not to give up and i think to many bands these days take a dull look on things.
In terms of bands around now, White Stripes are Very interesting and have been able to keep their style in a ever commercial business. Arctic Monkeys have ability to mix great tunes with witty and clever lyrics, and their first album is my all time fave album.
who would you consider the greatest artists in rock history then ?
Thanks for your answer.
Greatest artist? Probably Captain Beefheart or The Velvet Underground. Robert Wyatt deserves a nod if you consider his Soft Machine days combined with his solo period. Faust and Klaus Schulze would be up there as well. Those are probably the main 5.
I am doing a little research and I would really appreciate it if you told me what your ideals are with music. What do you look for when you listen to an album? The more detailed your answer, the better.
Also, some questions: do you find the albums you consider the greatest to be very profound? If so, in what way?
Do they possess a high level of expansion of content? If so, in what way? (a high level of expansion of content would be shown by numerous ideas taking place simultaneously or as in a stream of conscious, one after the other or domino-like effect. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is a good example of a song that has a high level of expansion of content.)
Do they possess a high level of ingenuity? If so, in what way?
" What do you look for when you listen to an album? "
well i never take an album to seroiusly, i can't sit down and listen to an album and thats it. i have to be doing something else and have it on in the background. so in those terms i guess what i look for is something that sticks out. something that grabs your attention. Say if i've finshed an album, but was on computer, only certain songs i will remember, so i go back and listen again to those that i thought "oh that was a catchy tune" or "interesting lyrics" so i guess what i look for is something that really catches you as a listener
"do you find the albums you consider the greatest to be very profound? If so, in what way?"
That varies. I find Deffinately maybe to be, but mainly due to time it was made and fact it captured a voice of britain at the time. Nirvana's unplugged is a very special album, in that it captures a softer side of a band known for loud distorted rock.
"Do they possess a high level of expansion of content?"
Radiohead's Ok COMPUTER i feel what suit this description. in that it very experimental album and in many ways a transitional period for the band. They expanded themselves both lyrically and musically, making statements while reflecting these with the style of music. You just have to listen to all levels of Paranoid Android to see this
Do they possess a high level of ingenuity? again mainly OK COMPUTER for reasons given above
thanks for your informative response. All your answers make sense to me.
I'm not sure I ever heard your thoughts on the two latest BNL studio albums? (Are Me & Are Men)
i've heard Are Me but never got Are Men, just forgot to get around to it. i'm hoping to get it soon, i hear they are both from the same recording session. Are Me from what i remember was pretty solid, a little more low key with songs like bank job, its been a while i'll give it a re-listen tomoz in fact.
Ah cool. Are Men is probably even better than Are Me IMO, a little more upbeat generally.
Always good to hear your thoughts so let me know :)
I'm pleased to see Back to Black here. Amy Winehouse may have a fucked-up personal life, but her music is great.
And, of course, the White Stripes are always a good thing. :-D
The girl has issues thats for sure, but she sure can sing. The album has got so much atmosphere to it, its a great album. I wanna hear her debut Frank, which i haven't got around to yet.
:D hehe of course. I listened to Elephant again (twice in same day actually) recently, what an album !
Frank also rocks. Not as good as Back to Black, but close. "Fuck Me Pumps" is one of her best songs (the only real competition it has as far as I'm concerned are "Back to Black" and "Rehab").
Nice update!
Thx dude!
I'm digging this list too. You're right, we do share a lot of the same taste.
