Awards: How I met Shelley Winters' Oscar.
Just a few months ago (may 2004), I was in Amsterdam and I visited the Anne-Frank-Museum. (By the way, a wonderful museum. If you're in Amsterdam, visit it!). After having seen her house and the different (original) documents (including her diary, of course), I came into a large room, where you could get audio-comments about the Museum and its history. And then suddenly, just twenty meters in front of me, I saw a marvellous statuette glittering under a sort of plastic (transparent!)bell. First, I wasn't quite sure if this golden object really was an Academy Award. That's why I decided to have a closer look at it. Finally I was glad that it wasn't just a Fata Morgana. It was actually Shelley Winters' Academy Award she had won in 1960 as 'Best Supporting Actress' for 'The Diary of Anne Frank' and given to this Museum.
Between the tops of my fingers and the Award was only this plastic protection of + -15 mm. Unfortunately, I had no saw in my bag. I couldn't understand nor believe that other people didn't even look at the Oscar. It became very hard to me to leave the Museum.
Well, I don't know if anybody understands me. Some of you will even think I'm crazy, but that was a unique occasion.
Will I ever again be so close to an Oscar?
If yes, than my next article will be called How I got my First Academy Award.
