The '99 Music Hierarchy

Tags:

God, I need to get some better albums from this year. This is just sad. (In my defense, I was in school and thus broke constantly.)

Ranked by Preference:

9

TURBONEGRO - Apocalypse Dudes

8

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN - Calculating Infinity
HANDSOME BOY MODELING SCHOOL - So... How's Your Girl?
DEATH IN VEGAS - The Contino Sessions
BASEMENT JAXX - Remedy

7

MOBY - Play
KARMA TO BURN - Wild Wonderful Purgatory
EMINEM - The Slim Shady LP
AIMEE MANN - Music from the Motion Picture Magnolia
SLEEP - Jerusalem

6

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - The Battle of Los Angeles
VARIOUS - Run Lola Run : Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

5

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - Californication
BLINK-182 - Enema of the State
TORI AMOS - To Venus and Back
TIN STAR - The Thrill Kisser

4

FOO FIGHTERS - There is Nothing Left to Lose
SOULWAX - Much Against Everyone's Advice

3

KORN - Issues [Jonathan Davis is an alcoholic. Jonathan Davis can't have fun because he is an alcoholic. Jonathan Davis follows up his band's breakthrough album with a sodden, monotone rumination on how much it sucks to be an alcoholic. Cry, cry for poor Jonathan Davis!]

2

GUS GUS - This is Normal ['Ladyshave' is funky and fun. But then they start singing about Jesus and the beats vanish.]

1

MINISTRY - Dark Side of the Spoon [Obviously a fuck-you-Warner contract-burnoff album, a la the infamous Stones single "Cocksucker Blues"; the only thing to wonder is why Warner didn't follow suit and refuse to release it. That would have been the smart move, as it doesn't even sound like Jourgenson and Co. are trying at all. Then again, considering the wholesale rejection of the angry, personal and horrific "Filth Pig," who'd want to try?]
LORDS OF ACID - Expand Your Head [I don't like remix albums that much, and this overstuffed hell biscuit is one reason why. The only thing this expanded was my hatred for the Nikki Van Lierop/"Our Little Secret" years of the Lords' lifespan.]

PENDING

BOTCH - American Nervoso
DROWNINGMAN - Busy Signal at the Suicide Hotline
KOOL KEITH - Black Elvis/Lost in Space
LES SAVY FAV - The Cat and the Cobra
SPY - Music to Mausner By
