_The 100 Best Films of All Time (100-95) (extended and updated)

100. Titanic

Director: James Cameron
Cast: Leonardo Di Caprio, Kate Winslet, Bernard Hill
Genre: Drama
Academy Awards: 11 (including Best Picture)
Year: 1997
Imdb-Rating: 6.9
Memorable quote: I'm the king of the world!
Critic's opinion (Ted Prigge):
"Titanic" may actually be the best film Cameron has ever done (maybe). Of all his films, this one has the most undaunted passion, biggest emotions, and grandest themes. It's an all-around powerful film, an epic that never gets corny, never seems like a disaster film, and is never boring at all. It deserves to be ranked along with the best films of the year, a wonderful masterpiece of a film. I loved every minute of it.

99. The Deer Hunter

Director: Michael Cimino
Cast: Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Christopher Walken
Genre: War
Academy Awards: 5 (including Best Picture)
Year: 1978
Imdb-Rating: 8.1
Memorable quote: When a man says no to champagne, he says no to life.
Critic's opinion (Dragan Antulov): THE DEER HUNTER, in its sincerity, dwarves almost any other film that deals with the ugly reality of war; compared with it SAVING PRIVATE RYAN looks like simple militaristic propaganda. Today's world, in which many wars are fought for the sake of daytime politics and winning elections, needs more films like THE DEER HUNTER.

98. Jurassic Park

Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum
Genre: Thriller
Academy Awards: 3
Year: 1993
Imdb-Rating: 7.4
Memorable quote: You will remember to wash your hands before you eat anything?
Critic's opinion (Eric Walker): JURASSIC PARK is an unforgettable summer experience, a movie that delivers exactly what we expect from it. It's got a flawed story and forgettable characters, but it also has some of the most amazing monsters of all time. The dinosaurs of JURASSIC PARK are a new high-water mark in the long history of Hollywood movie monsters, standing tall with King Kong, the Martians of WAR OF THE WORLDS, and other fondly-remembered creatures of the past. It's an movie well worth paying full admission price for, as long as you realize that you're not going to get Academy Award-winning performances or a complex plot. It's a far more satisfying film than the other summer blockbusters of recent years: TERMINATOR 2, BATMAN, TOTAL RECALL, and other flawed adventure movies. I can't see any movie coming out in the near future that will deliver a more satisfying good time at the movies. Arnold Swchwarzenegger? Who cares? 1993 is going to be remembered as the year we first heard the thundering footsteps of JURASSIC PARK.

97. Reservoir Dogs

Director: Quentin Tarantino
Cast: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen
Genre: Thriller
Academy Awards: 0
Year: 1992
Imdb-Rating: 8.3
Critic's opinion (Jerry Saravia): "Reservoir Dogs" is fast, furious, nasty and extremely entertaining. It placed Tarantino on the map, just prior to his crime epic "Pulp Fiction" a couple of years later. My one criticism is that his characters are shallow and lack much depth. Still, since no one in the film knows much about each other then perhaps that was the point.

96. M

Director: Fritz Lang
Cast: Peter Lorre, Otto Wernicke, Gustaf Gründgens
Genre: Thriller
Academy Awards: 0
Year: 1930
Imdb-Rating: 8.5
Memorable quote: There are more police on the street tonight than whores.
Critic's opinion (Ted Prigge): "M" is an intensely watchable film, one that holds the audience's attention, and in the process, stirs them up, and makes them think about what is occurring. A lesser director would have made this a blatant satire, but Lang lets the story tell itself and the meaning to come out through it, much like he did with "Metropolis." Lang is angry, but he's also doesn't to be condescending about it.

95. The African Queen

Director: John Huston
Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Peter Bull
Genre: Adventure
Academy Awards: 1
Year: 1951
Imdb-Rating: 8.1
Memorable quote: Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put in this world to rise above.
Critic's opinion (Dragan Antulov): Historical inaccuracies, bad special effects and script flaws aside, THE AFRICAN QUEEN is still entertaining film which is worth watching. Mostly thanks to excellent performance of Bogart and Hepburn; two of them would make us forget that the same story was later told in much better, yet less celebrated films.

Nice layout!

Thanks for the compliment, stumpy!
