- 10. Woman
- Album: Cosmic Excursions
- Artist: Barrabas
- Genre: Disco
- Year: 1972
- Why?: This isn't that ABBA shit, it's not one of those mainstream songs, it's one of the early disco songs. This is like an underground disco song. The kind that would get crouds of hundreds of gay black people to jump into a club and just start dancing like a wild woman. This song is very catchy, and it retains almost none, if any, of the highly popular mainstream disco beats. It's an extremely catchy song that makes me want to get up and just start dancing around everywhere, but in a very down to earth kind of way. His voice also really adds the love -- sounds like he's high off of some really good shit.
- 9. The Host of Seraphim
- Album: The Serpent's Egg
- Artist: Dead Can Dance
- Genre: Modern Classical/Experimental?Ambient
- Year: 1988
- Torrent: Here (Remastered!)
- Why?: Her wailing voice makes you feel like getting on her knees when the added violin surrounds you, making you feel like just lifting your arms up and feeling the music course through your veins, feeling it soar and plummet. The perfect scenery to me would be in the absolute middle of nowhere with it pouring rain and seeing the sun start rising, clearly, off in the distance. Later in the album the mans voice also comes into play (they switch/share), and... you just get the complete shivers. Every album by this artist is phenomenal.
- 8. Forever Heavy
- Album: Dandelion Gum
- Artist: Black Moth Super Rainbow
- Genre: Leftfield/Psychedelic Rock/Downtempo/Synth-pop
- Year: 2007
- Torrent: Here
- Why?: It's sooo fucking chill, you feel like rainbows are just floating lazily by, while seeing some of the weirdest thing imaginable. It just makes you relax and fall into this feeling of, just feeling so relaxed and happy and... I don't know how else to explain it, it's just so perfect. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes different music, and happy music I suppose (for lack of a better adjective). I love this guy, I think Zodiac Girls may be another one of my favorite songs by him. My problem is that I get so hooked on the first songs on the album I have trouble moving on.
- 7. Minimal
- Album: Reincarnations
- Artist: Matias Aguayo
- Genre: House/Minimal
- Year: 2009
- Torrent: Here NOTE: Must be a part of torrenttech to get this.
- Why?: When the song started playing I instantly was attracted. Then the bass came on and the singing started and I got off of my ass and started dancing around the room. the beat is so perfect that it is almost hard to believe life without this song. I listen to this song alone at least 2x a week. I also love the way he changes languages so easily throughout the song -- it just flows like water from a stream. After a few listens (as usual) you also start hearing some sounds you didn't notice earlier. It seems like every listen I hear something new, but I always get the same awesome feeling.
- 6. Just A Boy
- Album: A Book Like This
- Artist: Angus & Julia Stone
- Genre: Folk Rock/Acoustic
- Year: 2007
- Torrent: Here (need a .rar converter... extremely easy to find just type into google ".rar to .mp3 converter").
- Why?: His voice is a sorrowful beauty. It feels so unique yet very similar. Every listen reminds me of so many different things that I have trouble keeping track of it all. Her voice on this album seems to be nice and beautiful, but I prefer his more for some reason. I think it's because hers is a little to high for me, while his feels just right. But that really is the only complaint I have of the entire album. It definitely has some mainstream sounds to it, but not enough to make me bored. The song is very lovely, and a must listen to by everyone though. Catchy and sorrowful = intimately beautiful.
- 5. Vanessa
- Album: The Happiness Project
- Artist: Charles Spearin
- Genre: Indie
- Year: 2009
- Torrent: Here NOTE: Must be a part of Demonoid to get this.
- Why?: A pure original idea, at least I haven't heard of any other album like this one before. He takes the persons voice, and adds(?) sounds to add to his/her voice to make a song. I don't know how else to explain it, but it is simple yet beautiful. Every instrument and sound is so perfectly placed that you just feel the person through the song and their stories of their life come out in the song and soon enough you find yourself absolutely baffled by how amazing the album is and you stop what you are doing and are just completely captured by the song/album. This one is my favorite because it is a deaf persons experience of the first time she heard. Well, not the first, but what it felt like. Absolutely amazing album. I think it's by the same guy who does Broken Social Scene .
- 4. You Can't Hide From Your Bud
- Album: You Can't Hide From Your Bud
- Artist: DJ Sneak
- Genre: House
- Year: 1997
- Torrent: Here NOTE: Must be a part of torrenttech to receive this.
- Why?: Isn't this guy one of the original Djs of House music? I know he's been in the genre for 20 years, and that's enough to sell me. This is the first song I got by him, and this is the song that got me started in the House genre. After this sexy thing I went crazy for house, and I found my self always coming back to this song. Nobody but me seems to be able to listen (and thoroughly enjoy) all 8 minutes of this song, but I feel sad when it ends. It's so catchy, and just... just fucking sexy. The first time I heard it I felt myself jumping in my seat and before I knew it my friend and I were just dancing together around the entire room. Fucking awesome beat, and I never get tired of this. If you don't know of this song, get it.
- 3. Hardbeat Filez
- Album: Art of Hardstlye
- Artist: The Overminds
- Genre: Hardstyle/Jumpstyle
- Year: 2009
- Why?: This is the only hardstlye album I actually love. Actually, it's the only one that I really can even listen to on repeat. No one even seems to know this exists, but when I got this baby onto iPod and into my cars stereo system I was instantly in a mini rave with my friends. Blaring down the street at 3 AM in the morning dancing our asses off. My friend started making out heavily with her boyfriend and another friend started trippin his assssss off. I was just banging my head the entire way screaming my goddam head off. I don't know what I love so much about this album maybe it's just the singer raps to some of the songs, or how I just feel to be absolutely in a "get the fuck out of my way or I will run you off the road because of how absolutely amazing I feel right now" mood. Who knows, all I know is that this album has been on repeat several times, and the first song is a HUGE hit whenever I start playing it at a party. The sex starts almost instantaneously.
- 2. Flashback
- Album: Kindergarten
- Artist: Wolfgang Gartner
- Genre: House/Electro
- Year: 2009
- Torrent: Here NOTE: Must be a part of torrenttech to get this.
- Why?: "It just keeps going yeah you don't stop." The lyrics basically cover the entire song. This song is also a huge hit at the parties that I go to. Everyone just start moving and loving the song all over the place. The rise and fall of his voice adds to the amazingness, and before you know it you are just going everywhere at once and never ever ever want the song to end. "yeah, you don't stop." Damn right.
- Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)
- Album: The Very Best of Northern Soul
- Artist: Frank Wilson
- Genre: Northern Soul
- Year: 1979
- Torrents: Here
- Why?: It is the rarest song in the entire world. Well, it's the rarest record actually. The way it basically happened was... (I just found the review at discogs, and he says it much better than I (here). Frank Wilson made the song, then was told to not release it because he was a better producer (I think), so the record was found by some Dj (I forget the litle details because I don't have the book with me that I read this in) and he played it many times at the club and it was an instant hit. There are only two originals in the entire world, and last I heard it was sold for 15,000 lbs. It is an extremely catchy song, and it really does express the real soul from back in the day. If you don't own this song, then stop what you are doing and go and find it. Anyone that is a fan (a hardcore fan) will know of this song. My grandparents loved it, in fact they started doing the swing, which was such a cool thing (I played it at their 50th anniversary dinner). Get it, it's worth the patience to find.
Author Comments:
I'll do torrents later, and just to clarify the genre is what discogs says it is (of the album, not specifically the song). I hope you get something out of this list, good or bad, and please; if you have the time let me know of anything I might like, and tell me if you agree/totally disagree with what I posted above. Hope life is treating you all well :)! Torrents coming later!
