You'll note that I haven't added such artists like U2 or Van Halen or Madonna because it's pretty much a given they'll be eventually inducted. The artists in question are already in their eligibility stage (i.e., first recording 25 years prior to induction), and I think they've been overlooked so far. I'd like to see these select few get their due someday.

Great list!

yeah cause umm.. madonna is the reason i started playing guitar *cough cough* Great list!
uh, WHY isn't Avril Lavigne on this list!? she's the best ever! She could kick sting's ass!
You're so right. How I could I be so misguided?
Patti smith and Mc5 ...wonderful musicians
Unfortunately, there have been too many incarnations of Crimson to get into the Hall. The first line-up, alone, doesn't necessarily deserve it.
XTC? - absolutely, but let's face it, they're not popular enough.
Well, if we're going to talk about incarnations, the same can be said about the Rolling Stones, I guess. And I would love to see XTC inducted, but you're right, they're not popular enough. I fear the R&RHOF has become a popularity contest - how else do you explain the induction of Bob Seger? I admit Prince is getting his well-deserved due. But it's a damned shame some of the artists on this list may not ever make it into the HOF
I have a much harder time explaining the Righteous Brothers (one of those bands I just cannot handle) than Bob Seger. Early Seger produced some killer albums, even if many of them are STILL not on CD.
Alright, perhaps this post sticks a big Kick Me sign on my back, but there ya go... :)

Oh, and I love the fact that Captain Beefheart is on this list, even if we may be waiting a few more decades for his induction.
SHalom, y'all!

I was never a fan of Beefheart's, but I do respect the notion that Trout Mask Replica has been one of the most influential albums of our time.
I can't for the life of me explain the Righteous Brothers' induction into the HOF either. Their body of work and relevance can't support their inclusion. I wonder if Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield thanked the producers of Ghost and Top Gun in their induction speech?
As for Seger, I'll admit "Turn the Page" and "Night Moves" are great songs, but that damned "Old Time Rock n' Roll" just makes me want to murder him.
I suppose some few years from now we'll have to prepare ourselves for the inductions of Motley Crue and Journey into the HOF, while the Sex Pistols sit on the outside, waiting. C'mon, HOF people, vote Johnny Rotten in. Can't you just imagine what a brilliant speech Mr. Lydon's going to come up with? And while we're at, vote Iggy Pop in at the same time. Iggy and Johnny Rotten will burn the damned place down!
Yeah, I've already steeled myself for the fact that, due sadly to peers my own age, one day Motley Crue will be lionized. Journey nearly already is. I can only pray Poison never makes it in...
Shalom, y'all!

Some very worthy possibilities listed here. Thompson Fairport Convention should definitely be in and I think Thompson will eventually get in. Love the Neville Brothers, Gram Parsons and Nick Drake inclusions too.
The one that surprised me was Can. An interesting band that I have not thought about in ten years. I remember listening to Future Days while pleasantly buzzed back in high school.
Very nice list.
