Wow, this is an awesome list. Excellent choice for #1. I also love the Requiem for a Dream track (Lux Aeterna). Other ideas:

Final 'kisses' scene in Cinema Paradiso
Pippin's Song in ROTK? Maybe...

I agree - top stuff. My particular favourite is the moment in Goodfellas when it all begins to go wrong for the guys and the second half of Layla kicks in. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Would also add 'Sometimes' from Lost in Translation since it's about time someone recognised the cinematic possibilities offered by MBV.

And for comedy value, Travolta strutting with paint cans to the Bee Gees never fails to raise a smile.

I liked the film Cinema Paradiso but can't remember enough about it.

Lost in Translation has so many good music moments, so i bought the soundtrack. The end with 'Just like honey' is another one. I can't remember the scene with 'Sometimes' but i love the song. I also can't remember the bit you mentioned from Goodfellas.

Perhaps the most memorable shot of the 'Layla scene' in Goodfellas is the discovery of the frozen stiff in the back of the meat van.

Where Is My Mind? - Fight Club ( is a favourite of mine that doesn't get mentioned enough

Samuel Barber's, Adagio for Strings is an amazing piece of music that fits the theme of Paltoon really well.

oops *Platoon

I think that it's a decent moment just not a great one. It's over used in the film for me.

Brilliant list!

Either Once Upon a Time in the West or Requiem for a Dream would have been my #1.
However, I'm missing 2001: A Space Odyssey...

I prefer Clockwork Orange's music, i love the scene where the droogs walk in slow motion.

Truly a memorable movie, partly due to Beethoven's excellent music...

BTW, the music for Requiem for a Dream was not written by performance ensemble Kronos Quartet. It was written by composer Clint Mansell and performed by Kronos Quartet.

Cheers.
