  189. Thoughts on my 2007 Movie Year
  190. Managed to see a lot of films i liked this year (which isn't much of a leap for me as i tend to like everything lol) Towards for end of the year i focused on watching old favourites, or setting my viewing around themed ideas (all tarantino movies, Star Wars series, Wes Anderson films) after quite a few misses in the cinema (golden compass, Transformers, Run fatboy run, death sentence ect.) i'm going to pikc the films i make the effort to see at the theatre a bit more cautionally next year. Overall enjoyed i fair majority of new films seen this year (Brotherhood, Pan's labyrinth, Shattered Glass, This is England, Science of sleep ect. ect.) with the expection of a few miss steps. Though i gained most enjoyment out of visiting old favourites and rewatches this year
Author Comments:

There may seem a lot of A+'s but if you look they are mostly all rewatches, and i'm not going to rewatch something i don't like

Now Including Short films! for now i will include them in same list as feature films, may seperate depending on if i see a worthy amount.

This is a list of all the movies i've seen in 2007!

* = seen in cinema/theatre.

The newest addition in Blue

/ / - rewatch (usually to indicate a film i had seen before 2007)

Grades: A+ / A / A- / B+ / B / B- / C+ / C / C- / D+ / D / D- / F

Cloned From:

Yes, More is indeed a great film. I saw it on TV a long time ago. Sweet!

yeah, its brilliant. love the music, great animation.

Glad to see ya enjoyed "Blades of Glory", some ridiculously funny content! I also checked out "La Haine" from your rating and that movie rocked! Loved the grittiness of it.

hell yeah! i just wrote a review of it for my blog. i loved the head scene, Ferrell drunk at his new job and him singing don't wanna miss a thing down phone to heder's character!

well i'm glad you liked la hiane, yes it is gritty. Though like some films can, it didn't depresss me, its so finely made, great film.

So, you beat me by now... *cries*

hehe woo !

I liked Spider-Man 3 a bit more than you did (I gave it a B), but man, that was pretty much the most disappointing movie I've ever seen. I absolutely loved the first two--they're both on my top 100--and have been a comic book fan in general and a Spidey devotee in particular for my entire life, and since Spider-Man means so much to me, it has been one of the most devastating disappointments I've ever faced in a cinema.

And I liked it!

yeah it really was disappointing , both one and two, two especially, were great. With 3, i think it was mainly the narrative and to many bad guys. it didn't play out well, didn't flow. The things i expected to like i really liked (sandman) but then it really went wrong. like you wait till nearly end of the movie to see venom and every 5 seconds he pulls the mask off to reveal eddie brocks face, bit lame. also MJ gets captured..again. not to mention Peter going Emo lol and some of harry's stuff was stupid.

but, the sandman was best thing about that film, great to see the effects unfold.

You gave The Fly a B eh? Hmm, I've heard it was meant to be quite good so I would have been expecting at least a B+. Having said I wouldn't say it was particularly high on my to see list.

It's nice to see another person who doesn't think Transformers is anything that special. I mean some of the effects were ok but my god the storyline was cheesy and unbelieveably predictable.

Also good to see your opinion of Taxi Driver going up :-)

hmmm well i may bunk it up a bit actually, it was good don't worry deff worth watching!

nah Transformers was ok , but yes nothing special at all

haha aye Taxi Driver is heading up!

You gave Se7en an A+, which just makes me want to see it more!! It's got Morgan Freeman & Brad Pitt, and it's directed by the guy who did Fight Club, how could I not possibly want to see it?!

yeah, you'll most likely love it mate. its got all the genius you would expect from fincher film. it has an almost film noir sensability and style that really really works

It arrived a couple of days ago from amazon (pfft, some express delivery), and I watched it straight away. I loved it! Pitt portrays the young reckless type perfectly, and as always Morgan Freeman is great, and he plays a veteran cop very well. I really enjoyed the story too, the seven deaths were well thought out. However, Pitt's wife's death isn't connected to a sin, so I think that part could have been executed better , but still I really enjoyed the film. Also, once again Fincher's direction is excellent, which places him in my top 5 directors of all time.

ah, cool, well i'm glad you enjoyed. Yes you have a point about Pitt's wife She i guess was more of a tool in which to access Pitt's Sin (Rage) and Spacey's (Jealousy), so it works on that level but as you say she wasn't guilty of a sin and i guess the character almost spills over to a basic murderer at that point.

Yeah both of them shine in Seven, did you enjoy the chase scene in the apartment? i felt that was an interesting choice as rest of the film had been slower, it was nice breath of fresh air

(and yes i agree, Amazon sucks, long live play.com)

Yeah I see what you mean, If I'd have made the film i'd have made Spacey's sin wrath of some kind, and made Pitt's envy. I dunno how I'd do it, but would work better I think.

I liked that scene, and it did give the film a bit of pace, but overall I felt the film overall got it just right, not too slow but not stupidly fast either. Haha, I'ma have to get myself a Play.com account, as I really don't like Amazon anymore. Have you seen Blade Runner? I really want to see it, and was wondering your opinion on it (:

i like your idea, it would of worked. Actually there was an interesting alternate ending that i heard was filmed and put on the DVD i think it went like this

Same situation, Brad has found out what spacey did to his wife, but instead of Brad killing him, Freeman does. He shoots him and says "i'm retiring tommorow" though on paper that line seems bit lame, but i like the idea. It could of been played like : Brad is a young cop, he doesn't need the guilt of killing a man on his record, like freeman taking the hit for him, to save brad from making a big mistake

yeah amazon does have some good features, The Market place, i quite like. but otherwise, meh.

sorry mate i haven't seen it, well tell a lie, i've seen about 30 mins of it for film studies class but we were to busy talking about it, and having only seen 30 mins, i can't give a clear enough recommendation, but like you, i wanna see it

haha, would like to see that alternate ending. Morgan Freeman is such a legend. And yeah i'm definitely going off amazon. oh well don't worry about blade runner, thanx anyway

yeah i mean i wouldn't mind seeing Blade runner, another film on "too see list" lol

Sorry it's off topic, but there's no other list to get your attention on topic =P I was just wondering if you got any of those other trance songs off my list, and if so, what were your thoughts on it?

The Darjeeling Limited better than The Royal Tenenbaums? I'll hopefully be seeing it in the next two weeks.

well i'm not sure yet, its VERY VERY good, i only just saw it so it might just be because its fresh in my mind. The short before hand adds alot to jasons character

I also think the opening scene ("passing the tourch" of sorts) and the river scene mid way through is wes' best work

i hope you enjoy it mate

I saw Death Proof, and I should have hated it, in every single way. But I loved it, maybe it's because nothing is made like it anymore.

haha well i'm glad you did enjoy it. It has it's flaws yes, but as you say its kind of a "one of a kind" movie really

oh may i ask, which half did you prefer, first half or second half? (or basically which set of girls and their story) I'm personally a fan of the first half

OH , and Merry Christmas mate
