Author Comments:

All the albums my brother and I purchased for 2009. My brother tends to purchase the post-rock stuff while I go for the common modern and older releases.

you really buy all that vinyl? do you think it is that much better of an audio format?

Yes, I buy that much vinyl. And no, I don't think vinyl is THAT MUCH better audio format (sound quality can still be sketchy, storage can be a pain, expensive, having to flip and switch records, etc.) compared to mp3s or to CDs. But I primarily like to buy vinyl because I love to listen to the music through my stereo speakers than through headphones, watching the record spin, that it comes in colors, and the album artwork stands out more since vinyl packages are bigger. Silly as it may seem, but it's just my preference.

fair enough, it seemed like a lot of vinyl for common releases. i guess i do not care much about the artwork - though i bought a few albums for their enlarged artwork alone, and absolutely hate flipping the record once i get into a groove, but it's all good. i would probably buy more vinyl if i had the money to spare.

one thing i have heard repeatedly from vinyl fans is that it is far superior than any other format, and all other formats are poor duplications, and i vehemently disagree (if one can afford a great sound system).

are all the albums BRAND NEW purchases? i just bout a copy of the Honeymoon Killer's Love American Style (from the 80's) and i am not sure what i may be getting in sound quality with it being an original pressing, 22 years old.

So far on this list, almost all of them are new purchases. Some older albums I purchased on vinyl (Can, Husker Du) were shrink wrapped and I believe are repressings, so I consider those new to me. There are a few purchases where I have purchased a used copy.

How were those Can reissues? I was close to buying them but I'm always suspicious of reissues that don't state it's a reissue anywhere. Tago Mago was not a gatefold on the one I saw.

The copy I purchased was not a gatefold. I don't much knowledge of the vinyl release of the album. I know they were reissued on CD, not sure if a vinyl reissue was done. My copy was in great shape, so I suspected it might be a reissue of some sort.
