Straight 10s for Highway 61 Revisited.. hm. I wouldn't go that far personally, but I'm sure many would.
So then, not only are From A Buick 6 and Queen Jane Approximately equal to Like A Rolling Stone and Desolation Row, they're 2 of the greatest musical works in the history of rock, jazz or any genre?
It's totally fine if this is what you think. You are you, your tastes are your tastes and I'm not recommending that you change them for anyone or anything. I love H61 and I adore Dylan. He's among the greatest rock artists of all time. But I'm just making doubly sure here, because it seems to me your definition of a perfect masterpiece is a bit loose. I think your ratings would seem a little easier to digest and take seriously if you were a bit stricter in your assessments between ultimate greatness and greatness and very good and merely good, and so on down the scale. I mean, I've never seen or met anyone who felt those songs truly existed in the same sentence. Do you agree?
An example of my own tastes would be as follows:
Highway 61 Revisited:
1. Like A Rolling Stone: 9.8
2. Tombstone Blues: 9.4
3. It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry: 8.7
4. From A Buick 6: 8.3
5. Ballad Of A Thin Man: 9.6
6. Queen Jane Approximately: 8.2
7. Highway 61 Revisited: 9.4
8. Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues: 8.6
9. Desolation Row: 9.8
Songs Overall: approximately 91.6% (I weigh each song by it's length, the percentage of the album running time it takes up. Here I did an approximation of each, as I didn't have the running times at hand)
I also use some other categories, which help determine the overall depth of the album.
For H61, they are as follows:
Track Continuity: 9.6
Ingenuity: 9.5 (multiplied by 2) 19
Breadth of Content: 9.7 (by 3) 29.1
Profundity: 9.6 (by 4) 38.4
Depth Total: 96.1
91.6 + 96.1 divided by 2 = 93.85/100
To me, it's just short of a masterpiece, which would be a 95+
Yeah, I'm just crazy when it comes to music ratings. I give high scores very easily. Just liking the song is almost an instant 10 to me.
As I said, I'm crazy.
But I'm new to this whole music thing and I've hardly listened to anything. My opinion can still change. But right now, I can't see the difference between ultimate greatness and greatness. When it's great, it's a 10 for me. Sure, Like A Rolling Stone is better than Queen Jane Approximately, but I love the latter one enough to give it the highest score. Maybe I should be stricter, but that's just a switch in my mind I haven't turned yet.
And I don't know how to rate continuity or ingenuity and those things, simply because I don't know what that means in music. Maybe that'll come too when I've listened to more music.

I hear ya. Been there, done that.
To me, there's a degree of importance to getting correct ratings, if you're involved in promoting your album picks, or making recommendations to others or what-have-you.
That's why I do it the way I do it.
The way I originally made the switch was to simply start at the top: what's the greatest, most amazing song ever written. That's a 10. And I worked my way down from there, assigning lower and lower ratings to songs that were below that.
It's not something you have to do. It just depends on whether or not you want to precisely decipher masterpieces from very good albums and songs. If you want to do that, I've found it's a successful way to go.
I'll try that, though I'll probably still be giving high scores like this for a while. But I'll try that as soon as I've listened to more music. It'll probably be a bit easier then.
Oh, so are just now starting to get into music then?
Indeed. Just a year ago, I didn't listen to music at all.
What in the world did you do to it?
What do you mean?
A little humour. Very little, evidently.
Music is essential. If you "didn't listen to" it, what did you do to it? You must have done something. Dance to it? Drink to it. Talk to it, hop to it, give it a massage... play shuffleboard with it?
From Plato to Xún Z?... Nietzsche, Tolstoy and Einstein... to Ellington, life is impossible without music.
I also sometimes have trouble expressing myself in English.
Oh, sorry, I didn't see the humour. I've been pretty nervous today. Sorry :P
And as a matter of fact, I did manage to live without music then. I didn't dance. I don't drink. I didn't talk or do anything to music.
Everybody thought it was weird.
And that article...they do make it sound like quite a bad show.
The NYTimes has a horrifying article on Dylan on Broadway...
[snip]
Mr. Dylan’s songs have been entrusted to the great choreographer Twyla Tharp, the woman who gloriously redeemed the jukebox genre with “Movin’ Out,” a narrative ballet set to songs by Billy Joel. Ms. Tharp is one of the bona fide, boundary-stretching geniuses of modern dance. And when a genius goes down in flames, everybody feels the burn. Bob Dylan must be spinning in his grave.
I'm now looking forward to the Ice Capades production of Dustbowl on Ice: The Woody Guthrie Story featuring Sasha Cohen... a (very) little more humour.
