Really? He's so out of fashion (cos of Di and Disney, it seems) and due re-appraisal. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is the obvious starter, Tumbleweed and Capt Fantastic growers. Give Caribou a miss. Blue Moves was the crossroads, flawed but full of possibilities, after which he was never the same again; drugs/the backlash about being gay etc...

The best album from the seventies, IMHO, and most other periods you may care to mention, is missing from your list:
Pawn Hearts by Van Der Graaf Generator

It could be considered to be a cross between Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon and the Led Zeppelin song Stairway To Heaven. It is terrifyingly beautiful.

Do not under any circumstances buy the remastered version with extra tracks. The five extra tracks include two 'fans favourites' that are totally out of context on this album (other then the period in the band's history). The other three are fillers. They completely dilute and distract from the main tracks / the effect / the theme of the original album. The two 'fans favourites' consist of a light instrumental ('Theme One') written by George Martin (of The Beatles fame), which is completely untypical of VDGG, plus an overrated song ('W') sought after only because it is rare / not easily available to fans. If after hearing the album you desire these extra tracks I will personally burn you a copy and send them to you separately, together with some other bonus tracks (so as to entice you not to buy the remastered version).

Those self-confessed Peter Hammill fans include David Bowie, John Lydon, and Thom Yorke. To quote Peter Hammill "All things are apart, all things are a part".

Ranking albums by decade is a great idea!

I agree with most of your five stars that I see, especially Desire--it gets lost in the crowd of Dylan albums too often. Cosmo's Factory, Sticky Fingers, Plastic Ono Band--couldn't agree more...

Have you heard Santana's Abraxas? I believe that's 1970, and another one of my favorites.

Though I should probably listen to them again, since I've become a bit more open to the somewhat louder music (some of it anyway)

Really dig your list. It's a lot more musically credible than the Scaruffi influenced lists and, unlike those lists, shows a level of originality that's refreshing among the PieroParrots. I especially agree that the Sex Pistols don't deserve anything more than a star and a half. That being said, Floyd's Dark Side ofthe Moon should be much higher than 90% and Animals is horribly underrated at 79%. Both albums are every bit as good as Wish You Were Here and Meddle, and IMO better than either. And Bitches Brew? 90's plus, for sure. Peace
